Hi Gals, well God in His infinite mercy has granted Mum a permanent placement in the Nursing Home that I've wanted Mum to go into for some time.

Our son Ben has been marvellous in helping me with getting Mum's placement too and Trevor has been a huge help in filling out paperwork for the Nursing Home and Centrelink (for her Pension etc.)

Thankfully for us a room has become available on Thursday this week as the lady who was in there is moving to a Nursing facility in Canberra (our Nations capital city) to be closer to her family, thereby opening up a room.

At the same time Jewls (my sister) will be arriving on Thursday evening. She has to travel from the far west coast of South Australia to come up here to Newcastle on the east coast of New South Wales. She is leaving Wednesday and staying at Warrawong on the Darling River, a nearly 2,000km trip. The first day's trip will be about a 10+ hour's drive. She will arrive at Mum's place Thursday evening.

The Nursing Home which is called The Opal Tingira Community Centre is literally 100 metres down the road from Mum's place, so the surrounds will be familiar to Mum.

She is being transported to The Opal on Friday by the Ambulance Transport team.

I am so thankful for the prayers of everyone who has helped me through this phase of Mum's transfer to a new home. It's going to be challenging, but Mum doesn't know where she is even now in the hospital.

She has lost a lot of weight and is sleeping a lot, because she isn't eating well. I don't blame her though as the hospital food is not that palatable. She is on viscous fluids, so she doesn't aspirate. They worry about getting Aspirational Pneumonia. She has lucid moments throughout the day, then falls asleep. I even blow dry her hair and she falls asleep through that!!!

I have a picture of what she looked like when she arrived after a dreadful fall on the 22nd November and one taken yesterday. Her face has healed well where she scraped it on the dirt and bark from the garden where she fell. I witnessed the fall and have had nightmares about not being able to stop her fall down the 1.4 retaining wall in her back garden. I kept thinking what would have happened if she did this when I wasn't there! She could have been lying there for hours before I came the next day.

She has broken her neck in two places the C1 and C2 and will be in that neck-brace for 6 weeks plus. She doesn't like it and it makes it hard for me to feed her, plus the Nursing staff. I go in every day to make sure she is eating, but with the brace it makes it difficult for her to open her mouth wide. She is getting to like custards, mousse, ice cream (but not regular ice-cream) everything has to have the right amounts of protein and carbs etc. Even the water is thickened!!

I'll be going in this morning and try to get her to eat any of the breakfast that she tends to leave. The nurses are so flat out they really appreciate family helping out. I can't fault the care Mum has received at the John Hunter Hospital, they are so stretched.

Thank you to all my friends on here who have been praying for Mum, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love Chris

1. Map of where Jewls lives in South Australia to where I live in Newcastle.
2. Picture of where Mum fell from the top of the garden bed on the right of the Plastic black garden screen.
3. Top of the garden bed where Mum fell from, she tripped on that little rock ledge under those flowers, through the garden, through the panel and down the 1.4 metre retaining wall.
4. Mum early on when she arrived. She has healed well in the past two weeks.
5. Yesterday (Monday 5th December 2022). I had been blow-drying her hair which she slept through!!
6. Map of Mum's house and the Nursing Home just down the street. Mum's place is with the black line and the Nursing Home is the red circle, literally 100 metres down the road and it's right across the road from a huge shopping complex. It's good as she knows the area well after living there for 19 years.

Hi Sarah, yes it's great news and we are all so happy to get her into this facility. I went there this morning and found out a friend of mine from my church is going to be Mum's next door neighbour. Mum can look out the window on the 2nd floor and see my car in the carpark from there. It's all worked out so beautifully. Love to you and your beautiful family too. Merry Christmas

Thanks dear Suzanne, I'm so relieved too. I rang Meganne today and she said she could hear it in my voice of how better I sounded. I've been so worried about her. I know God has plans for her yet. Love Chris

I'm relieved to see your Mum is healing after that terrible fall. Your pictures make me realize just why you continue to have awful nightmares. Isn't it amazing how now we can see God's timing in all this. Satan has been cruel, but God turned this into a series of miracles for you and your Mum. I am praying she settles into her new home quickly and easily and will soon be able to enjoy making new friends. And I hope you are soon able to put the nightmares behind and concentrate on making new happy memories with you Mum to treasure for years to come.

Oh! thanks Karen, you've made me cry. I too hope Mum gets to enjoy this new phase of her life. It won't be the same without me dropping in to her home every day surrounded by the things she loves, but we will try and make her room "homely". Love Ch

As difficult as this is, it will be a big sigh of relief to know that she is in wonderful care at all times and that you can see her anytime you want/can. Just looking at her photo, and the care you've shown in dressing her and fixing her hair , demonstrates the love she's been given. What a wonderful daughter you are!

Hi Jerrilyn, I've tried my best over these past three years, but this year has been the hardest and I am so thankful for this opportunity to get Mum full time care. I can't wait till Friday to get her settled and comfortable. Jewls is arriving tomorrow night and we'll take over some of her clothes on Friday once the Centre rings us to come up. Love Chris

Hi Vicki, yes, indeed! We are all so blessed to be able to have Mum in a safe environment. I know she won't be able to have Lily, but until Jewls goes back, we can take Mum outside in a wheelchair and let her see her in the garden. Love Chris

All the very best to you and your husband, now your Mum is in a safe place, please take care of yourselves, it is very tiring looking after the ones loved ones, it is what we do because we love them. Thanks for the update on your Mum. She sure spoilt her beauty when she fell. She is lucky she didn't do more harm to herself considering where she fell. So glad to hear she is going to the Home you wanted and in familiar surrounds to her. I will keep you, your Mum and all the the family in my prayers. Safe travels to your sister. Hugs

Hi Shirley, yes, Jewls has a long way to come again and all within 6 months of her being here in July.

I'm not looking forward to clearing out some of the things in Mum's place, but it has to be done eventually.

We need to sell the home to help pay for the RAD (Refundable Accommodation Deposit) or the DAP (Daily Accommodation Payment) until it can be sold. It's all a learning curve for us. Love Chris

Dear Chris, You and your Mum and your family are all in my prayers during this time of big changes. Hoping the transition goes well and that the good healing continues. As said above, praying that your bad dreams stop. That said, there is a way to work creatively with your bad dreams. If you can't focus on other things than Mum and her fall before bed, then wonder about creative ways to solve the problems. By pre-inserting that idea into your future dream, you may find some interesting solutions. It helps to keep pen and paper by the bed to write down any ideas immediately upon awakening. Creative people have creative dreams.

Aah! thanks for that Betsey. I sometimes do that when I wake and I record on my phone what I've dreamt about. I am sure they will finish once I know Mum is settled. Love Chris

Chris, I am so happy and thankful that your mum has a good place to live and close by so you can pop in to check on her well being. She looks so much improved even if she’s lost weight. You remind me of me, both of us fixing our moms hair. I was privileged to use the beauty shop at her nursing facility but I used my own products and tools. I had cut moms hair for years, her being in a wheelchair for 40 years. I apologize I haven’t sent you a pm but know you were often on my mind and heart. Thankful things are working out and all the family are there to support you and your mum.❤️Toogie

Thanks for the update and pictures, Chris! Your Mum's scrapes and bruises are healing well. So happy that she will be staying at the Nursing Home close by her house. And, it will be good for all of you when your sister arrives too. I believe your nightmares will fade when you see her settled this weekend. Good thoughts, continued prayers and lots of hugs!! Laura

Thanks my friend, we are all relieved and delighted that we could get her in the home just near her place. I'm looking after myself, but still not sleeping that long! I keep waking up thinking of things that will need to be done relatively soon!! Love Chris
