Love your quilt!! It reminds me of the quilts my grandma made. She used scraps of whatever was available. They were always lovely. Seeing you on your knees, made my knees hurt, you are one tough girl :).
It’s really not my quilt or at least the top isn’t. It was made by one of my grandson’s great grandmother on his dad Lee’s side. His mom Marsha, is my oldest daughter. G-gma Odom has been deceased many years and his grandmother Pat , Lee’s mom has had them stored away. Pat decided at Thanksgiving to number the tops and let each family member draw a number for their top. She thought this was the only fair way to do, so Dalton and Lee each got one. Everyone will have to have their own top quilted or keep them as is. I had bought extra 108 backing when I bought this gray for my ‘Yellowstone’ quilt so Dalton was lucky I had batting too.
I try to pin a quarter of a quilt at a time, before I try to get up and rest my back and knees. If it’s a smaller quilt, I’m good, usually. It’s those queen and King that do me in.
Well done. You will have one very happy Grandson. Hugs
I am sure you are glad that this is behind you. You did a great job. Pat on the back for your willingness to take this on. You are very courages
Thank you yes I’m glad it’s over. Dalton said his dad, my ex-son-in-law, got one too and wants me to quilt his. 😩
Watching you on your knees makes me hurt just looking at it. Run when you see your ex-son-in-law coming.
I saw him at Robert’s funeral. Lee said he sent his quilt with Dalton ( my grandson) but Dalton hasn’t brought it to me yet. I told Lee I would look at it, but wasn’t promising I’d quilt it, until I checked it out.
Treasure these photos and I hope you never have to quilt on polyester again. The back is very pretty.
Finger saver: Have you ever tried pushing with the light sanding side of any emery board?
I had to laugh because hard as I had to push and pull it would have broken the emery board, really.
Never again? Look at my reply to Angie😩😩😩
Hurray that you managed to quilt it without stitching your fingers or hurting your back again. It looks beautiful. And obviously, your grandson is one happy guy having his beloved quilt back and looking good.
I haven’t given it to him yet but he will be happy. Ashley took my picture on the floor pinning it when she came in while I was pinning. On the floor hurts my back, thank God not this time. Quilting hurts my shoulder, between the heaviness of the knits and the strain to get over the seams. I had hand cramps hand stitching the label and didn’t sleep last night for muscle cramps back and legs.
Congrats on another Toogie project. I know you did the hard bit at the end not the piecing
Yes, I hate sewing behind someone else or having to repair. If his dad brings his, I hope I don’t have to repair. I really don’t sew or quilt for outside the family but I think my grandson expects me to because it’s his dad. Also, they know I make QOV for free so maybe they think I should do theirs.
I'm sure your family member will love it. Bless you for powering through! Hugs. and Merry Christmas. Nan
He loved it as a top just because it was something, from his great grandma Odom. He just wanted it finished but I couldn’t quilt it until I replaced about 15 or 16 squares with other double knit squares. I just couldn’t bring myself to quilt with those holes in the squares. Batting would have came out. Nan even then while I was quilting I found one square with a hole. I had to just mend it by stitching back and forth over the hole. What else could I do? I was already into quilting. I said the quilt top was ‘mostly’ double knit. Poor lady used a mix of decorator, a few thin silky pieces, a few cottons, etc . It truly was one of those ‘use what you have’ tops.
