These are lovely, Chris! Can't wait to see the final project.
It is so hard to close a house but, lovely that a young nice couple is going to live there! Our kiddos keep telling us that we should "downsize" and move into a smaller house. We both know that we will know when it is time and it isn't yet. Plus, this is the house that they were mostly raised in. They would never be able to "go home again" literately. Take good care!! Hugs, Laura
Hi Laura, thanks, and yes it's been a challenging time since December. Jewls did a great job and when she left I had to total clearing of the house to be finalised. The family were wonderful and I took a lot of things to our Op Shop and Jewls herself has taken a lot of Mum's things (we drove down to her other residence in NSW to drop that off). I had to take all my keys and garage door openers and drop them off on Sunday. Every time I drive by I think of Mum, but it wasn't our family home, that was in Adelaide and they lived in it for 42 years. This home Dad only got to live in it for 7 years before he died and Mum was in there for 19 years. Love Chris
Oh, the Koala is adorable! How many more to complete? Love all of the animals. When finished you will get first prize! Love, Suzanna
Hi Suzanna, this is the last of the animals. I did a Australian Cattle Dog, which is not applique and not from Sweetpea.. I am now starting on our native birds. A black cockatoo, a Galah, a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, a Lorikeet and a Rosella parrot. They look really great. Love Chris
Chris I am loving seeing the different animals that keep appearing as you complete them for the quilt. Is picture 4 a wombat?
Hi Caroline, yes, it sure is! These are one of our native funny animals, very slow, but can run fast if chased! We have the Common Wombat, the Southern Hairy nosed Wombat and the Northern Hairy nosed Wombat My favourite one is the Southern Hairy nosed Wombat. They are such comical little critters, well not so little They can weigh up to 32kg!!! Love Chris
Chris, thanks for the continuing education on all things Aussie. I thought a wombat was a fantasy animal that did not actually exist. Guess, it's like our armadillo, If you've never seen one, you wouldn't know what it is when you see one. Just P.S. - the armadillos are so bad to jump out in front of cars in the Deep South, and jump up into your windshield that they are a major expense in car accidents.
Beautiful stitch-outs so far Chris...can't wait to see the finished quilt!
As usual, you have been very busy! I love these quilt sections - this will be a beautiful quilt!!! Hope you have some time for yourself - maybe to just sit and read or watch a bit of T.V. Take good care of yourself!! Hugs, Laura
Hi Laura, thanks for commenting and I've been doing just that, resting the past 3 days at my daughter's house. Love Chris
Love the beginnings of your quilt. As Suzanna said, take care of yourself. We are all thinking of and praying for you. I know how emotional it is to see your mom's home empty and someone else living there. So glad a young couple is there. We were lucky in that way also. (We live next door to my childhood home. My parents lived there over 50 yrs.)
Wow, how wonderful for you. I've got a long way to go with finishing this baby quilt, but I'll get there. Love Chris
Your quilt is going to be amazing! Remember one thing, you are #1! Take care of yourself first and everything will fall into place. Sending hugs, prayers, and love, Suzanna
Thanks Suzanna, I'm trying to do that, but things keep popping up to hinder me. Thanks for your kind wishes, love Chris
Chris, These designs are , WOW! The details and thread work are just beautiful. Have fun stitching this for the little one. Glad your mom is settling in.
Chris: this is gorgeous, I do love the combination embroidery/ applique.
The designs are fantastic, the finished quilt will be a real work of art and I can not wait to see it completed, Hugs Roberta
Hi Roberta, I rang Ros (my sister in law) today to ask her if she can measure Emma's cot so I can have a rough idea of dimensions I told her I would try and get it finished by the time the baby arrives, but I'm not going to overdo it, as I've got a lot going on at the moment. Ros said Emma will be thrilled with it. Love Chris
Love the new two additions to your quilt
Thanks Caroline, I too love them. I've got 2 from another designer here in Australia - an Australian Cattle dog and a Kangaroo with Joey, but it's the wrong direction but I will try to incorporate the Kangaroo and Joey in the 5x7 upright and not horizontal. I'll add them into the same green background with the side strip. I've had to use the Kookaburra one as he has the largest strip the others have the animals going into the two parts! I'll work it out I'm sure. Love Chris
Love the design and looking forward to your sharing the finished quilt.
Know you are in my prayers, I have been in your shoes, know it is not easy decisions that have to be made.
So sweet that you gave the young couple house furnishings. God Bless you and your family.
Thanks so much for your kind comments and yes, I'm happy that the young couple will keep some of our things. Love Chris
These are gorgeous and I am so wondering how anyone can do all you have regarding your mom's things plus still want to even take time to embroider. If it was me I'd be sitting on my rump so tired. I always wonder how there are high energy women. You all are like Superwomen.
Ha ha ha! Patty, Trev often says that about me. It's lucky I'm fully retired otherwise I wouldn't be able to do all these things. I''m not looking forward to the weekend, when we finally take everything out of the house though. Lots of memories in this one for me even though Mum was only in it for nearly 20 years, Dad only lasted 7 years there. Love Chris
OMG, can't wait to see this finished.......it will be spectacular, Chris!
Thanks Vicki, It's only going to be a cot quilt. The designs are beautiful and I can't wait to get to the Australian florra pieces. Love Chris
Hi Chis, good that you take the time to embroider or be creative. I know that visits to the nursing home cost a lot of strength, take care of yourself, love greetings Maria
Thanks Maria, yes, it's a strain most times. Conversations are often muddled. Love Chris
itis for the best..Memories There will Always Stay!!!Awesome design and Gorgous work as always!!!
Your work is amazing! The quilt will be beautiful and loved.
Selling her house must have been hard, I am glad you had help to clear it out.
I know what you mean about having "me" time. I too go see my sister 3-4 times a week. Right now, they have covid in the memory care unit so I will wait a few more days to see her. Love and hugs, Suzanna
Oh! Suzanna I'm sorry to hear about your sister's care centre having Covid. Mum's ground floor area has had it too about 3 weeks ago. Luckily Mum is on the second floor and her floor was ok.
I can't wait to get back to the sewing, I'm house-sitting (see message below) and hopefully next week I'll get to do some more. Love Chris
Hi Chris, looks like you’re fitting a bit of sewing in with all that’s going on. It must be a great relief that your mums house has sold. What a super quilt you have started.
Hi Caroline, sorry I've been house/dog/cat/grandchildren sitting as Amy and Steve have gone to Byron Bay (about a 7 hour drive away up north) for a surprise 40th birthday party for one of Amy's bridesmaids. Unfortunately Deanie whose birthday it is found out about the surprise.
So I haven't done any sewing as I can't lift the sewing machine for a few days. I had a Breast Biopsy yesterday and need to take it easy till the weekend. Love Chris
