Lily (10) only wears swim shirts with swim skirts. I always get them from Costco but they don't have sizes larger than T8. She is skinny and can still fit in size 5, but the shirts are too short(she likes to keep it tucked in the skirt while swimming). She also likes her hip fully covered. I had to make this for her (way more expensive and more work than buying) as there's nothing on the market for her now.

I made my own pattern for the top and used a Jalie pattern for the bottom part, but didn't use the A line skirt in the pattern. Instead, I made it a half circle skirt.

You did a wonderful job of stitching!!! I remember when you made bibs for your girls!!! I made one of your watermelon bibs for my granddaughter years ago!! Your kiddos are growing up fast! Well done, hugs, Laura

I know...How time flies! I'd better make more before they become too old. Thank you, Laura!

You are so very clever to be able to make this outfit to fit her. She is the perfect model to show off your talents too.

This is a very good idea as I read your concern about too much sun exposure. It looks very cute on her. A pretty model too.

I remember going to all the shops trying to find jeans for a size 0 or 1 for my oldest daughter. When I did find them I had to pay high. She had outgrown the children size but was too small for adult size.

Yes I'm Asian and we don't like the sun-tanned look and sun is the #1 aging factor, so we try our best to stay out of the sun. It's hard to control the kids and they don't always remember to reapply sunscreen so I tried to have them wear rash guard style top when they are swimming outdoors.

Lily is extremely skinny (she still wears 5 year old size for undies) and it's hard to find pants that fit her. I have to alter the waist or make her pants.

I have not heard of swim shirts and skirts. Children/grandchildren can be very specific as to what they will wear and not wear. Your creation looks great and you have solved what your daughter will wear

She looks precious in your creation. A win for each of you.

Basically it's a rash guard and swim bottom with a skirt over it. Costco has carried the style from UV KIDS for years and they have the best price. I always bought them as this saves a lot of sunscreen. Also when they go to a park with a water play part, they can just wear this to the park as this looks like a normal outfit, without having to change into swimsuit inside the park.

Lily has been very picky since she was a baby, complaining about socks and undies not comfortable enough. Lia (8), on the other hand, can wear all styles, including this style, one piece, tankini and bikini, although I almost never buy bikini, as that requires a lot of sunscreen.
