Hi Cuties! Well I finished Eva’s quilt! Yea!!! I do want to embroider her label though, just not sure how I want to word it. Thinking

Made in the year 2023 for
Eva ________last name
With love from
Papaw ————- and
Gram _____ last name

What day you? A friend told me to embroider in Spanish to surprise her 🤷‍♀️, not sure about that. Size is 78 x 95 This will be her graduation present from us. If she decides to take it back to Spain next month we will vacuum pack it for her suitcase. If she is sure she will return for college here, she will keep it for her dorm room, I’m sure.
Hope you all have a nice day! ❤️Toogie

Meet Eva! This was a picture taken by the photographer on the Foothills Parkway in Tennessee

Eva is a beautiful young woman and will be thrilled to receive her special gift. It sounds thrilling to go overseas to college. You've done a wonderful job on your quilts and love the borders. Wow....Patti

Thank you. I think Eva will be both surprised and pleased to get a quilt.
Eva has been to one of the QOV presentations. A veteran that is a cardiologist here said he served in Spain so after the presentation they stuck up a conversation.
I just got home from my quilting/sewing group. I picked up one of my tops another member quilted. I will sew the binding on and also the label. We needed 16 quilts completed for next month but we found out today, the second presentation was rescheduled for August or September so that’s great. We won’t be too rushed to get them done.

Oh Toogie! This quilt is amazing! Eva will treasure it always. Did you design it yourself, or was there a printed pattern? Either way, you certainly have a gift for putting colors together. All my best to you and your family. - Marjorie

Thank you, I put it together without a pattern but I know there is one for it. The picture I saw had red set in triangles with different colors in the squares and 9 patches.
Since I had previously cut my squares at 5 inches, I knew I had to make my 9 patches the same size. I cut the little sqs for the 9 P at 2 1/8 inch, an odd size I know, but my foot takes a bigger seam allowance than 1/4 inch. It gave me just enough extra to sq up my 9P to 5 inches. My set in triangles I cut 8.5 inch square then cut a X through the square giving me 4 set in triangles from each 8.5 in square. The corner triangles I cut at 5 inch square and only needed 2 squares cutting each in half from one corner to opposite corner, like a half square triangle. I laid them all out before sewing any together. Then I started sewing across, like you do on point, starting at left top corner on down.

Oh my! Now you have me wanting to try making one. I'm still having vision problems, so maybe not. I'll just enjoy looking at the photo of yours. It's so beautiful.

Thank you, I made her a pillowcase too. I might have just enough fabric to make a sham, but I may wait and see if she wants one. Thursday our quilt group gets together so I will be helping to get those 16 quilts finished for June’s presentation. Friday I will have my 95 year old brother in law here, so won’t get any sewing done.

You have created a beautiful quilt filled with love and memories for a beautiful young woman. It's hard to realize her time with her 2nd loving family is almost up. I've enjoyed seeing her pictures this year and hope she is able to come back and be close enough in distance to you and your family to continue this special relationship.

If Eva continues her education here, she will be about 80 miles round trip. She plans to stay in the dorms and come ‘home’ on the weekends, so some of us will have to pick her up on Friday afternoon and bring her back Sunday afternoon.
To me too, it seems like her school year with us passed fast. I know she will be glad to see her Spain family when they come in June. We are always giving her hugs, but none feel as good as mom and dads.
I need to go to my home computer and show you the pictures the photographer took of us two. We had just got through taking some group pictures, maybe of me and all the girls , I can’t remember she took so many. Anyway, Eva hung back with me because I walked slower so I didn’t fall. She grabbed me around the neck with a big squeeze and I told her she was choking me-lol well the photographer must have turned back and snapped a few shots. We were laughing but I thought she was gonna squeeze me to death! -lol- she is very lovable and we sure will miss her. She says she will be back in 2 months and I say I’m going with her to make sure she comes back-lol- she jokes and tells me to come and I can stay with her grandmother and eat broccoli-lol- According to Eva her grandmother cooks it every day.

Thank you Suzanna. I don’t know if it’s being a high scoring math student or the fact that her dad is an accountant, but Eva makes only necessary purchases. Her belt and shirt is my daughters, Eva’s host mom, she borrowed so all she bought for the pictures is her skirt.
On the other hand, her brother is also in the exchange program and ran his parents credit card up $1400 in one month! They naturally froze his as punishment-lol Eva has used my other granddaughter’s formal for prom and also borrowed another formal for another occasion so saving her parents so they wouldn’t have to buy gowns. How many American girls would do that or think about the cost to their parents? She has just turned 18 and is very responsible about money.

Eva is a doll. She loves to joke so much you would think that she really is my biological granddaughter.-lol All my family have accepted her and love her like their cousin, niece whatever. We just had her 18th birthday party at the Crawfish Barn and Caleb’s family were last to get there because Rylan was playing ball. However, there were about 30 of us and the tables were placed together in a L shape. It was funny to see when Eva saw them and they saw her, they got up and met in the aisle for hugs. Caleb has always been, but most all of us are, huggers. We hug when we meet and when we leave. It is usually a sadder hug when the little ones leave, bc they never want to go home-lol I bet your family is like that too. Thanks

I am amazed on how quickly you can put together a quilt top. This one is fabulous and would look great in a dorm room. She is a pretty girl.

Thank you Christine. I can sew all day when I want to get something done, because I am retired. I stop long enough to cook or my husband will cook sometimes to help out. I needed to get this finished for graduation but also bc I need to work on quilts, for Quilts of Valor. We have two presentations next month that require 16 quilts. I have one quilt completed and 3 tops with another member to quilt.

Beautiful! Beautiful!! Love the design and the colors, even though I am partial to blue. I think the label should be in English, just another reminder her other family when she looks at it. Eva will love it!!!

Thank you, blue does seemed to be liked by most people. My oldest sister likes blue, but my middle sister liked red. I was always partial to greens and fall colors but now like bright colors. The bright colors lift your spirits. Anyway, I guess you could say I now like most colors, so I can’t say I have a favorite anymore.

Ooh! Toogie, I love it. These are my colours for my home. Eva will cherish it and I know she will be so impressed and love it. Good luck with your label. You know the baby quilt I did with the animals on it, guess what I did on the back for her label I put Charlotte Pennifold instead of the name of Emma's husband! So I have to make another label and get either Ros (the grandmother) or Emma herself to unpick the existing one and put the new one on! How stupid of me he he he! Love Chris

Now Chris, that sounds like something I would do and have done. On a wall hanging I did years ago, I put my grandmother’s birth year, for my oldest daughter. 1889! Marsha was born the day before G-ma’s birthday and I was so consentrated on getting her day right, not G-ma’s day, that I put G-ma’s year🙄🤣
I know how much you love blue so I figured you would appreciate this one, thanks!

Another stunner from you. Toogie the speed that you whip up a quilt is beyond me. Living where many are bi, tri or more lingual I would go for both languages. But what ever you choose it has been made with love by you for Eva

I will go to Google translate and see how it converts my English to Spanish- I sure hope it will be correct as I don’t want to put something wrong. Thanks for looking.

asterixsew by asterixsew 04 May 2023

Google translate isn’t the best. Welsh to English often leaves a lot to be desired and the meaning alters. Can be quite amusing sometimes

Betsey, on her ACT she scored 27 and 28 in Math and such, but her reading (English) comprehension brought her overall average down to 25 bc she got a 20 in that. We told her 25 was a good score!

Thank you Laura. I am pleased with the finish. The blues look good. I had most of them and 3 ladies in my group offered me some blue, some were used but not a lot, so I will return what I didn’t use or need.
