I am of the opinion of the other gals. I've not used a Heavy Duty Singer but in my opinion Singer has gone so far downhill in quality. Brother still holds a high standard equal to Babylock. I know nothing about Bernina's but don't like all their buttons and icons you have to memorize what they all do. Brother and Babylock seem to have an easier format and look. Back in the day Viking Husqvarna was a great machine too but I find the newer stuff very lacking. There is absolutely no dealers near to me for this machine brand---it is like they are being dropped like hotcakes. I wish you luck with your Brother [I think I read down the line here that you bought.]
Welcome back Mary and I agree with the ladies - make sure you have a great dealer close to you. My dealer is only a 20 minute drive from my home and I've used him and now his daughter for over 30 years. Love Chris
Hello everyone! I recently purchased the Brother St371HD based on the positive reviews I read. I appreciate all of the advice and guidance provided. I hope it lives up to its reviews. Thank you!
Mary, my only suggestion is to go with the one of which there is dealer near you who can and is willing to help with fixes and questions.
I agree, go with the Brother or a Babylock serger. They are both user friendly. I hope you find the perfect serger at a dealer near you.
Mary it’s great to see you again. Sorry I cannot help but graceandham has given excellent advice. My sewing machine is a Bernina 807 which I have been happily using for almost 50 years
Your machine deserves a happy birthday dinner or party or tuneup! That's fabulous!
Hi SInger machines are not what they used to be. Brother is much better and IF it were me I would go for the brother machine in an instant. Hope that helps you./ Suzanne
Hi Mary! I don't have experience with either machine, but I would think it would be really helpful if you could find a store that has both so you could sit and stitch at each one. Also, Singer is a company in decline, not nearly the product it was before being bought overseas, so watch for quality issues and availability of repair techs. I used to have a Brother embroidery machine and was so impressed with their customer solicitations and responsiveness. If customers requested it, they tried to incorporate it into future machines. Hope this helps and that others will come along with more specific info about these two machines.
