Hi Patti, wow! This is gorgeous, what a lot of work you have done with it, love Chris
Beautiful! Love the design, the colors and the backing! Great job.
Wow! The colors are so rich. I haven’t made a quilt with batiks yet, but I do love them. The backing is perfect for this quilt. You said you made it at your serger club. Are all your piece sewn together with the serger? I sometimes serger my long borders, but only after I first sew them on with my regular machine and a small stitch. I probably would never finish a quilt if I hand sewed the binding on-lol-A lot in my group do like you, by hand, but I machine stitch close to my fold and can usually make good straight stitching…. I did read that you zig zagged this so I am confused. You must have done this binding by machine to zig zag, but usually you do by hand. Is this what you meant? Anyway, the only hand sewing I do is smocking and nowadays I don’t even do that. So who is this quilt for?
Toogie, It was all sewn 1/4 inch seams on the serger first as strips sewn together in sets of 3, then 3 sets are laid right sides facing and serge each side like making a tube. Then these are sliced using a ruler with 60 degree line. I guess I got 5-6 sqaures out of each strip set. There is a YouTube video on this but can't remember the name. Our serger club project. I used the fusible thread in my lower looper for the binding but then decided if it doesn't stick well I've give it an extra boost by putting fusible in the sewing machine bobbin and zig zagging raw edges then turn and press. It saved me fro clipping the binding together to hold while hand stitching it down. I could have machine stitched it but I decided to sit and hand stitch. It was pretty easy, I got to admit that. I had to be careful not to stretch the edges as when you cut it with that angle your edges all are on the bias. It worked out great.
Wow! You did an incredible job! Kudos to you to manage to finish it with all that is going on in your life.
Thanks Karen---there are just some things I am making myself finish. The free Laundry Day Tee from Love Notions was a sewing club project this month--I turned mine into a swing dress. I am hoping my picture I took yesterday turns out. Some things I forget to get a picture of and forget to post here. Haven't sewn with knits in years so this was so easy.
My favorite colors...brights! Love the pattern and the back is just as beautiful. great work. I did not know fusible thread existed. There is always something to learn on the cute site.
I love Sparkle and Shine things--bright colors do shine. I was fortunate to find this backing that showed every color on the front. I've had my fusible thread for years and don't even remember what I bought it for but if you find it and buy it--store it in a sealed plastic zip bag--kind of like the water soluble stabilizers.
Wow, great, i love the colors, do you need my address? LOL
Ha, ha.....my husband doesn't like it--well he says it's pretty but not his type. Mine either but since it took my hand to complete I guess I'll keep it and hang it proudly. Well, hang it when I buy a rod and the hubby will put the rod on my wall--that will take a couple years to do if then.
