Gosh Betsey, that's hotter than it gets here in Newcastle (Australia) during our hot summers. My heart goes out to you having to put up with that sort of heat, it's so uncomfortable to bear. Glad you got it all worked out. Love Chris
Can you insure your device???? I know that we can insure most of our stuff here in Oz. Like you I am not very good with techy things.
Recently we purchased an updated model robot vacuum cleaner. I set it up but nothing I did could get it to work. Packed it back in the box, muttering about all things new. "G" Had to wait for son to return from overseas. In the meantime, I kept saying to my darling take the damn thing back. Son came over and tried several times to get it to work, in the end he phoned the help line. Like most of those lines it was a foreign voice hard to understand, but in the end, he got there, can I mention that it took over two hours to actually get it to work. We have the best son ever.
The reason I could not get it to work was it had to be connected to our mobile phone. If they had mentioned at the time, we would never have bought it. These types of appliances are ok for young folk who understand anything techy, but at our tender years it is beyond both of us. To make life even more difficult my darling has macular, and I am his eyes. He had to give up his driving license after 61 years so you can imagine how difficult it has been for him. He never complains just get on with life. To help him we have many new items that make life easier for him, particularly the computer, it is amazing the things that we can get to help him live a normal life. Of course, there are many items we just cannot afford, the prices of some of them take one's breath away. LOL
Now back to your new thermostat fingers crossed you never have another lightning strike. That was a lot of money to fork out.
My heart goes out to you. It's scary to think we can no longer get the old-style thermostats: we are now stuck with the computerized ones. And I have next to no computer skills. I guess I am just out of luck and ever more dependent on my hubby. I'm so glad you are now cooling down and pray you won't get struck by lightning for a very long time.
I can still run it the old way as I did not ask him to program the days of the week and times of day. My former one took 1/2 hour to reprogram twice a year! I'm mostly home and it is easier for me to simply push it up or down a degree or two manually. Plus, my home was built in the energy aware 1970's and it is pretty airtight. Once I get it chilled down for the summer, it is best to leave it that way, even if going away for a week! Same deal with the heat. I am simply "teched out" with trying to keep up with all the programming and built in clocks and timers on everything. I did learn how to do two new things this week on my phone. I think I am tech challenged. Hard to imagine that I made an A plus in computer programming course years ago. I was number three in the class. Number one was a Chinese student who had been creating his own games since age 5. Number two was a future military "geek" who aspired to be a spy at age 19. I was a teacher, recertifying my teaching certificate.
Sorry about the issues and glad you at least have some relief. We are fingers and toes crossed everything keeps running in our Arizona desert home (where 111 + is the air temperature).
