Jan/hightecgrammy posted a picture recently of a beautifully tidy drawer full of her sewing essentials. graceanddham added that she hoped no one would post pictures of her sewing room. I too fall into that catagory. My untidyness drives my husband mad at times and there are occasions where I know that I have something but where. Well this afternoon I have worked through a pile of boxes and found two items I needed before Christmas. I found them while going through the boxes but by now I have duplicates. Any ideas please as to how to be tidy and organised?

The boxes are now tidily replaced outside my sewing room and I have cut a piece of fabric off the bolt that I needed so now I will go and sew.

I'll try again on the pictures. These look nice compared to what it looks like today. I'm doing some applique and so I have tons of fabrics out to find just the right color. LOL. I wanted to tell you also that on top of the fat quarters is my ironing surface. I bought this used entertainment piece at a garage sale, took off the doors and begged a piece of plywood off of a local guy who was remodeling a house nearby. Then it is covered with tons of padding/ fabrics and a piece of wool on the top. It isn't big enough, but it works for most things. I didn't have room for an ironing board.

I had to laugh. I think my sewing room is so stuffed with treasured fabric, stabilizers and doubles of things like scissors and so on, it could never look tidy. And my hubby wouldn’t dare comment on it because his office, man cave and the garage looks even worse than my room. I spent the past 2 months reorganizing all of my shelves, baskets and so on. It looks better but still overstuffed with my treasures. But it is my happy place no matter how it looks.

I told my DH about this post and I haven't heard him laugh so hard in forever!!! This is tooo funny! Because MOST of the time my sewing desk and whole room is a DISASTER! I should have taken a before picture. The only thing that saves me is, between big projects I resort, refold, and get my room as organized as possible. I do this while I'm on hold on the phone, for chatting with someone on the phone. I can't make, can't force, myself just clean up. I have diagnosed ADHD, so keeping on task for anything is next to impossible. My mom, who was really well organized and who did not have ADHD used to say, and I always remember this, "A place for everything and everything in its place." Soo.. I have worked on having places for everything. I am really fortunate that since kids left home, I was able to take over one whole bedroom as my sewing room. I have such a mismatch of storage. Every gift receiving occasion I ask for more containers, more light, different things for my room. My DH is well trained to always ask me what I need next. He is wonderful and he's not organized as much as I am. WE took doors off the closet and that's where I bought some of those very cheap stacking shelving units. We paid to convert an old computer desk into a cutting table. You can see how I used more containers in the space that was for the desk chair to fit. I bought those cheap/cheap plastic containers for my fat quarters. I have all my collection of CATS and Boyds and dolls and everything else in my room. Every square inch is used and if I didn't straighten up sometime I would never find anything. that's also why I have labels on every drawer and most containers. So.... so no one will think I am actually neat, I am posting photos as my room is now, today. Keep in mind this is only two days into my last cleanup. So truly, I am not neat and tidy. I would never get anything made if I was.

If you only saw what my sewing room looks like!!! I'm happy you can't cause I would be very embarrassed! My hubby is the same way - he gives me a look and rolls his eyes. But, I love my sewing room (wish it was neater but, doesn't matter - I still love it). If only someone would take care of all the things around the house, like cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. and tell me I can stay in my sewing room and not be disturbed - I would be a happy camper and it would be more organized. So I am no help to you - other than to say, "don't worry about it - try organizing some but mostly just enjoy your time there"! Hugs to you!!

You could be a very different person, highly structured, disciplined, etc. But that might cause you to lose some of your creativity. I say what happens in the sewing room stays in the sewing room. Enjoy your creative, artsy, generous, kind self.
