Good morning Cuties! I watched a YouTube video of Elenor Burns, from Quilt in a Day, making the Mexican Star. You may recall the brown and yellow quilt I quilted a friend, from blocks she got at a thrift shop. It was a variation of the Mexican Star block. When I finished quilting it I said I’d like to make one. Well, this one is the Mexican Star, but not the variation like Angie’s.

I had bought two (20 pc) Jelly Rolls a while back for $3.50 each, if I remember correctly. They were on clearance at Walmart. I didn’t know what I could do with just 40 strips total. As it turned out, by cutting a little yardage that matched, I was able to make this quilt, with just one 20 strip pack. I had green yardage for the small 4 squares but also cut some from the JR. The Star wedge green was from the jelly roll. I had leftover navy squares for the center of each star. The block wedges required one strip for each block, so I cut 3 strips from my navy print, for 3 of my blocks. The background white with navy dots and the gray sashing and borders were from yardage.
I saw one of the quilts was ruler quilted like straight lines, in the center of the strips. I’d like to quilt it like the one Theresa made on the show. I just don’t know how hard it will be for me now. I’m still in therapy but I really don’t want to go anymore. The wrist is about as flexible as it will get. Therapy is just building strength now.
Anyway, I have this top and 2 more ready to quilt when I decide to go for it. I actually got up this morning thinking of getting Nora’s ready for quilting. She doesn’t want it heavily quilted bc it makes the quilt stiffer, so I’m thinking just quilt in the ditch. Hopefully, I can stay on track. We will see.
So I hope you like this quilt top. Showing an overload of resized pictures, of process and auditions for borders. Also, my seams! I do like a neat inside😀 I sometimes forgot to take pictures of the same block, but you can still see the steps, tho the colors may change. The last picture is on a Full size bed. The overall size now, before quilting, is 79 x 96 inches.
Have a great day my friends!❤️Toogie

Toogie, that is beautiful. Simply amazing what you can do with what you find deals on, and go from there.

Toogie, you need to start a podcast of teaching new quilting patterns. You would be a shoe in! This is another gorgeous quilt!

Lol- I can barely check my email and get on Cute. Tech stuff scares the heck out of me. If you only realized how incompetent I am on a computer or with technology. Thanks!

Toogie this is beautiful. I think you need to give me and maybe others time management tips so we too can achieve as much as you do. The colour choices are super

The strip colors were pre packaged so I didn’t have to choose them. I had purchased the green and the background white, at different times. The navy print I want to use for something else, so I may not have enough now. Time will tell. Thank you for commenting and as for as time management I don’t know what to say. I do what I can, when I can and for as long as I can.🤷‍♀️

Well WOW Toogie. You do more while in therapy than I do all week. This is beautiful. I remember years ago, before I ever attempted a quilt, I downloaded instructions for a Mexican square. Yours is gorgeous. Good luck with the therapy, it is a pain but so worth it.

And so….did you make your Mexican Star? I just showed my friend Angie and she likes these colors better than hers but she recovered by saying she does like hers. Thanks!

No, never made it as I forgot I even had it. I will give it a go now though, (If I remember )
