Earlier this year I was asked if I had embroidery machines and if I did could the person contacting me come and have a look. Somehow this hasnt happened but it did today. A couple of weeks ago I had a stall at a stashbuster sale and someone I know from swimming said she had a embroidery machine for sale. Last week I collected this machine and brought it to my house. The person who is interested is a young man who wishes to embroider his own designs on t-shirts. Using inkscape and a embroidery machine in a Makerspace where he was visiting.

So... today we finally met and he met his new to him embroidery machine a Janome 350e (I think). We had a brilliant time lots of questions asked and for me a new experience as I have never used this machine before. After about 3 hours he went with some embroidered fabric, loads of ideas and hopefully helpful advice. He set off carrying the machine, the backpack he arrived with, a bag of hoops and all the info the machine came with, and two bags of fabric that I was going to pass on to someone else. Somewhere there were needles, thread and As yet we didnt look at my machines as I wanted him to get to know His machine and my machines are way out of his budget.
I was amazed at what he had achieved and his first foray into machine embroidery was on a t-shirt and there was no backing fabric used and he had created the design himself in Inkscape.
I am looking forwards to more sessions with our embroidery machines. Lastly the friend who's machine it was is delighted that it has found a home where it will be used and loved

So much fun sharing our craft with others. You are so very generous to share with him. I bet he will pass on the kindness. Hugs. Nan

Thanks Nan. I have had a email from him showing pictures of what he has done and a email from the seller saying she is happy that someone else is enjoying her machine

So nice that you took the time to introduce him to such a wonderful craft... I am sure he will remember the day and experience for quite a long time.

we will meet again and he is keen to see my machines. He has a studio about 5 mins walk and he lives equally close. I found more fabric to pass onto him today as well

Janome 350 was my first machine. I found it awesome and quite easy to learn. It served me well and I put many miles on the odometer (stitch counter). Its worst feature is the limitation to 5 x 7 hoops and the age of the machine. Eventually there will be a dearth of parts or people who know how to repair. As for the hoop size, I found it best to focus on small hoop designs to sell, as people don't really want to pay enough for the huge designs that take 3 hours to stitch out. I did find it best to only use the Janome brand needles and Robison Anton thread or Floriani. Wishing him well!

I didnt want him to see the big hoops I have as the 350e is limited hoopwise and he is limited by a lack of cash. The dealer I use will be able to repair it IF they have the parts. I expect I will learn new tips from him as well as him learning from me
