Hi Cuties!
A friend asked me back in March to make this pillow cover for her to give another friend for Christmas. She wanted certain things on the fabrics that meant something to the couple receiving it. By that I mean she wanted deer, rabbit , squirrel, flag, bulldozer for the man and blueberries, daffodils, other flowers for the woman and LSU for both. I kept reminding her although the pillow is 18 inches square the La State applique is smaller. Anyway she finally got all the pieces to me and although it’s not things or colors I’d put together, it’s made and she gets it today.
I put in sewing because I did more sewing and quilting. I did use my embroidery machine for the word ‘home’, however the Applique was made on my regular machine. I first used heat and bond to adhere it to my white square. I stitched a straight stitch, then 2 different size zigzags before finally stitching the satin stitch all around the edges. When I quilted it, I first outlined the state and home with a straight stitch before quilting my meander or stipple. The back is quilted too and I put a zipper at the bottom edge so it can be taken off to launder. I hope she likes it and the couple , as well. I don’t enjoy making something for somebody else when they want things I don’t feel good about using. After all, we do our creative crafts because we enjoy and have our own visions. The yellow daffodils, the kids bulldozer both are things that stick out like a sore thumb. When showing my sister, she said the daffodils at the bottom right look like a chicken leg/ drumstick. That really made my day! ( a little sarcasm on my part)
