misscharlie, I have a similiar program - called Palette V6 - that I have done several photo stitch designs from photo's - first off - you need your photo in black and white - it works best that way - open your layout and editing up - click on the Image drop down - go to IMPUT from File - find your photo - click on it - it will bring it into your design window - at this time - if it is larger than your hoop - make it smaller - but click on the corner of it - with the curser and the CTRL key - then back up to the IMAGE dropdown and click Image to Stitch Wizard - you will get a box that says - Select Stitch Method for Image - I click on the Photo Stitch 1 - Color and the NEXT button - you will get a screen that says - Select Mask - I usually do the oval or the sqaure - but you pick what you want - and click the NEXT button - once then again - then I click the NEXT button when the Photo Stitch 1 Parameters comes up - then the Image Conversion may take a moment or two - so wait - click FINISH - go back up to the IMAGE drop down and click Display Image - OFF - if you like it - save it - if not - try another photo or adjust your colors - it will stitch the lightest to the darkest color most often - and as Ricky said there are ALOT of jump stitches and they can not be helped - with PHOTO STITCH - it is the nature of the beast - but if you want something that looks like it is stitched into the fabric and looks like an old time photo - this is the quickest way - until you learn how to digitize - enjoy - if you need help - just ask more questions. Here is the project that I did for my Mother - this one here is my test stitchout and the link is the finished project - that I posted here - a while back - take a look. Hehehe!
It was nice to see that project again, it's such a lovely rendering of your mother.
Misscharlie, You've gotten lots of excellent advice. Now it's up to U. Just keep us informed on how it's going & post everything *4U
I have Digitizer Pro, and I got it from my Janome dealer, who also offers lessons and help over the phone. Couple of times that was very helpful. I, too, learned by playing, playing & more playing. I got a printed manual with mine (hee hee hee). About photo digitizing. Digitizer Pro can do it, but I'm not sure I like it. I don't like anything the program does 'automatically', I like to do it manually. So much more control over stitch type, jumps, pathing, etc. I have seen photos done in Embird's Sfumato that look good, but that's manually done by digitizers, too. Study the different programs, and the sellers, what kind of support will you get? If a program is pricey because of all the things it will do 'automatically', I wouldn't be too impressed. Do it yourself is best, and photos can be pretty tricky. Best of luck to you!! Marji
TY Marji for the advice. *4U It's a lot of $$$ for those digitizers not to be taken lightly. That is why I am playing with the 30 day free trials to see if it is something I will really want to do. Honestly there are so many great designs out there I don't think I would have time to try and digitize anything. It just would be nice to do something with my children and grand children on it.
Charlene, my Digitizer Pro has photo stitch but I have not used it. I don't much like photo stitch. There are too many stitches and jump threads. Can look quite messy if you don't know what you are doing. I have never manually digitized people but I have digitized a couple of horses from photos. Here is one of them. Ricky.
Misscharlie, I have Palette 7, which is similar to PE 7. It is a wonderful program, however, so much to learn it will take a lot of time. Go to your Layout and Editing, abd click on help, everything you need to know is there. If you still have questions, e-mail or call them, with Babylock I have found them to be very helpful. I am sure that Brothers would be the same way. Hugs and flowers.
If and when the time comes to make a purchase I will follow your inst. For now I am trying all the trial versions (one at a time) to get the "feel" and see if it's something I can someday try and do. TYVM
Welcome misscharlie! I don't know anything about PeDesign7 but wanted to welcome you. *4U
My PE & just arrived in the mail 2 days ago. I just finished printing the manual, so I don't think I will be much help but will be in the same situation soon I am sure. Hugs and a * Eric
PLZ PLZ PLZ keep me posted! I will need all the tips and tricks I can get lol. I kinda like the idea that I may get to learn from your "mistakes" teehee!!!
i do not know this program either i know my program has the photo stitch thing i have not messed with it yet
That is so cute! How do you post it here? I have the Wilcom trial at the moment so maybe I can try to make something simple. Hmmmmmm...
Unfortunately I can't draw for the life of me so I will have to find a pic to fill in for lack of a better word.
Do not ow this program, but is on my wish list. I you will to know how it works you can get the manual from the brother web page and also download a demo that you can use to give it a try. Hope you get some better fedback from someone that is familiar with this program.
After my 30 day trial with Wilcom is up I am trying the PE Design 7 trial sooooo in about 30 days I can say more OR maybe less LOL.
Pe7 was my 2007 xmas gift, it was on my wish list for the same reason (digitize grandchildren photos) unfortunaly, to say is easier than to do. If you buy any software, make sure that the dealer know the program well and offer lessons on how to use it. I do not want to say Pe7 is good or not, I still do not know how to use it. Goodluck *
The best way to learn to use any software is to play, play, play. You really need to take time to play with it. I don't have PE7 but I do have Digitizer Pro, and I found I learned more playing around with it.
Eric has the right idea. Print out the manual. I you can't afford to print the whole manual, start with something simple and just print that section and have it sitting next to you when you play.
