Just a thought. I know when I sew for people and I don't think they have any idea how much time it takes, I give them an itemized bill. List pattern cost, fabric cost, thread, app. hours put in to the item. Then I add the price. Many times when people see this they relize the price is very good and they include a tip. This way you kinda let them have some say in the final price. Only once has a person not paid over the set price. Good luck
Good idea but all my books have been made from my stash of fabrics. Have no idea of their cost. :) The thread is really the only thing I have bought. As for the hours -- two many to even know. But I had fun because I was making them for my granddaughters. :) Guess I should pay more attention to my time. I did when I made counted cross stitch Christmas Stockings for everyone in the family (6 months minimum on each one.) Glad those are done!
Pricing items is so difficult. I googled a paperdoll book you posted (only got one) and it looks lovely. 12 pages in all, at $30 that's $2,50 per page. Not much for a lot of work. Make sure that covers your costs!
Deb, I have heard the $1 for 1000 stitches - but you can charge that - no one would every buy them - but I have figured between $8-12 for a hooping usually is about right - but for a project like you have - you still couldn't charge that - but I see that you have decided that $30 is fair - so it must be - good luck and hope that you feel that you have given her a good deal and that you have paid for you materials - we know you didn't get paid for your time. *4U
Don't U just love it when U hear "oh I've got to have one like that, will U please make me one" U have excellent answers dk. go 4 it, but don't sell yourself short *4U
Thank lbrow. These ladies come in for a quarterly meeting and one of them always calls and wants me to bring in what I have been doing. I love seeing their reactions. I gave them the last of my bookmarks too! :)
I have done some work for others, but projects like yours takes a lot of time and materials. I sat at a luncheon with Diana Cedolia(a Viking instructor and digitizer) and she was asked what to charge. She stated that usually it is by the stitch count - example $1.50 per 1000 stitches, plus materials. I know in this area that If that was used we would not be able to sell our projects. Let us know what you decide - we all might like to know. Good luck to you, and keep up the good work.
Thanks, I've also heard $1.00/1000 stitches but that would not be sellable here either. I was thinking around $30 but don't want to be too high, she's also a good friend and co-worker.

I have never done one of this, but hope someone an give you some good advise. Just keeping your post to the top :D Good Luck. Will be waiting to see a picture of your project *4U
I already have a couple of my books in projects. I sent some of to the granddaughters before I posted the others.
It is really hard to work out the cost, your time included. But I would probably charge double the cost of the design. That would be $30.That should cover the cost of materials. (I don't know how they compare to Australian prices.) Charging full price for your time would make it too expensive.See if you can find anything similar on the net, and how much they cost.
Thanks mpo14011, I was thinking $30 also, but was afraid it was to high. I know my time can not be charged because it would outprice anyone. I know the applique or felt cloth books go from $25-$50. But I always felt the $50 was to high for them.
i am no price expert but i know i was looking at this site and just for the dolls alone they want 15.00
Thanks marymoore. I want to do it because it is her first grandchild but it is so much work and I know she doesn't realise how much work it is. But I at least want my material cost and some for the use of my machine.
