I have a Janome 300E Americangirl & now use both poly & rayon threads but I must say that I do better & prefer, rayon. Hope you are enjoying Cute.
First a warm welcome to you. I have used Madeira rayon since 1993, it does not fade unless bleached. For the last couple of years I have also used Marathon polyester. Works just as well, but has a different sheen. Just as long as you buy good quality thread you'll be OK.
I use and have used for many, many years Sulky Rayon. Fact: don't bleach it. Myth: colors don't hold up. I have things that have been washed weekly (not kidding) for over 5 years and they have not faded one iota and are still very much shiney and pretty. My DH flies RC airplanes and he wears his airplane shirts I made him every week and trust me, they are NOT coddled! I use it on baby items and put on my tags, bleaching not reccommended, will fade! Sews beautifully on my Bernina. If thread is breaking, it's my dull needle, poorly digitized and too dense design or thread in my bobbin case. I have also used and use Madera and Robison-Anton....don't skimp on your thread. It will cause you more problems and take the joy out of ME(machine embroidery). That said, everyone has their favorites, so just buy what you see and like, but by quality. Happy Embroidering!;)
Totally agree with you, about the threads that is.As far as finding your stump, Yoda, I think Luke Skywalker is lying on it!LOL
First let me welcome you to the "Cute Family"!! You are going to love the people and all the help you can get here. I always use poly thread only have a couple of rayon colors. I do a lot of baby items and poly will just wash and hold it's color better. Also, the poly colors are just a pretty and have a great "shine" now. Hope this helps and again welcome. *4U Sue
i do the ebay thing like bikermom and radient threads is who i go through welcome to cute stick around you will love it here
Welcome to the group, AmericanGirl!!! You'll love our Cute Family here. I use poly threads, good quality. I have Isacord, Robison-Anton and Floriani, and my Janome 300E likes them all. You should get some good answers here, one thing I've noticed, seems like some brands of machine like certain thread better than others. What kind of machine do you have? That may help you get more specific answers. I know rayon is not very good for repeated hard washing and bleaching. I'm not sure what you mean by poly "looping". Stick around, you'll get good answers. Again, Welcome! Marji
My machine is also a Janome 300E. It looks like poly is prefered over rayon. Thanks for all the help everyone. :o)
I prefer Poly, I used rayon once and it broken to much. But somebody here gave me a tip, to put the rayon thread at the freezer and it works for me. But after I finished all the threads I didn't buy it anymore. Welcome to Cute. Flower and XoXo
I also haven't really noticed a big difference, altho rayon doesn't take well to repeated washings, so keep that in mind for whatever you are putting your design on. But as long as you stay with a reputable brand you should be ok. M & K Enterprises on Ebay has super deals on Maderia and the threads at Radiant Threads also on ebay have worked well for me.
Welcome to Cute American girl ! I use both and don't really notice any difference. I did learn the hard way tho that the cheap brands are not always a bargain as they messsed up more and gave my machine fits.
