oouch, I have had a industrial machine needle go right through the tip of my finger, while I was helping my M/In-law (she was an Upolsterer)I learnt from that one and keep my fingers right away from the needle........

I use the little bamboo scewers for that job they are long and fine. I think it is the sign of the sew'r I am sure we must of done that at least once if not twice in our lives and it is the quickest lesson learn't once done

According to my mother I did when I was 18 months old, just after Christmas, sitting on her treadle machine. She had warned me, so even at that age I did not want to show it hurt and only said: Look, candle!, blood dripping on the dress she was sewing for me and tears running down my cheeks. She used it for ages and ages to demonstrate how stubborn I was... But I've never done it since.

OW! see that's why everything you read (especially here) tells you not to snip your jump threads til the machine stops etc, of course I don't think anybody listens, but I bet you won't get that close again! Kiss on the boo boo.

I also have done this when I was young, The needle went trough my wnhole fingertip and nail and back again. The needle was broken and I had to pull out the needle of my finger. Never to old to learn to put the machine off. Glad your finger is not too badly hurt.

You shouldn't have pulled it out. The embroidery bears looked great when they were finished. You can start the new trend in human Tatoos. They say you learn to love the hurt. It is quite an addiction, and the money you can make... WOW! You go girl***

I burned my thimb on the curling iron today if it makes you feel any better. It was an Einstein moment as well. I was trying to hurry to get out of the way of the carpet cleaner.

4lghoward by 4lghoward 19 Aug 2008

That is thumb. I guess I may be tired enough to go to bed now.

A long time ago I was giving a sewing demo to some ladies at the church and my son went under the table and pushed down on the presser foot and got my finger then. All I could say was "OUCH".

Thanks for the warning. I haven't done that yet. However, I did get a finger in the way of the rotary blade. Fortunately, I had a good surgeon; he was able to stitch the tendon back together and the finger works perfectly now. Jan

Oww that would hurt a lot more. Glad your finger works still.

jand803 by jand803 19 Aug 2008

Actually, there was very little pain. It was such a clean cut, I just held it together and a neighbor drove me to the hospital. Those rotary blades are really sharp.

I think that we all have done that - I probably did one better. I took my eye off of what I was doing - the needle went into my finger through the nail, broke off, then went in again, and left another piece. After about passing out had to pull the needle out of my finger. Only thing that made me mad was that I got blood all over the towel that i was embroidering. You should have heard what my husband called me! LOL - hope you finger heals soon.
