You need a teflon foot which comes with teflon strips for placing on the foot plate.
I have purchased the teflon foot, that works well, plus I have used the tear away underneath. Now I have never heard of the teflon strips, where do I get those???
I have had some wonderful tips, thank you so much
Well you have plenty of good answers, here i s a flower to you * Welcome to Cute
Welcome, Dianne. You got some really good answers. Can't wait until you post your pictures in the projects section Good luck sweetie.
Sorry I don't have any help for you, have not tried that yet. BUT, I wanted to welcome you to Cute, and give you a flower! Just watch those flowers grow!
I see Diannemiegel, you have some great answers. I just wanted to add my "Welcome" to you. Hope you like us enough to stay. With all the great people here, whats not to like. HaHa!! Hugs and a flower.
First, Welcome to our Cute Family!!! As you can see, you get lots of good help here, no matter the time. If you're in OZ, the gals there will be awake, and if you're sewing at some ungodly hour like some of us do, you have the USA and European gals. And our guy from Texas, Eric!! Now, your plastic. I can see the concept, just wipe off the outside, won't get the embroidery dirty, etc. Can't wait to see these! With plastic, I'd use the longest stitch possible to keep the bags together, yet still not put the holes too close. When you get the needle perforations too close, the plastic loses integrity and can act like a 'tearaway'. Ask me how I know, hee hee hee. Best of luck to you! Marji
You have many good answers but I wanted to Welcome you to the Cute Family. A flower for you
just be careful - i did some baby bibs and the plastic was actually 'cut' away, stabilizer helped but it was pretty tricky, good luck. Maybe stitch the design on fabric then attach like a patch?
I have made a bag out of rubber backed curtain material
thank you, actually someone mentioned that, but I wanted a clear plastic that you could see the pretty material underneath
Why not use waterproof material? I made my brother-in-law a drawstring bag for his shaving gear when he went into
hospital, using this material, and it was very easy to
sew, I actually put tissue paper under the foot just to make sure, and it was fine. A good source for waterproof
material is a shower curtain, one that looks like material,
not the shiny plastic type.
at this stage I wanted to be able to see the material underneath, tearaway was also mentioned which was a good idea. For the lining for a cosmetic purse the shower curtain idea sounds great, thank you
Welcome to cute dianne. I've not sewn plastic before either, lots of tips for you to try though. Will look out for your finished bag(s) in projects Jo
Most brands have a teflon foot, just for this purpose. The plastic won't stick to it and the foot glides easily over the material you're sewing.
Mops is correct, a Teflon foot will help take the headache out, It is useful in working plastic, leather, imitation leather and especially top stitching the items.
you got some good advice so I will say Welcome to Our Cute family and here is a flower
Welcome to the 'Cute' family. You got lots of good advice - look forward to seeing your finished product in the projects section. *4U
Along with the tear away, there is a special foot, NOT metal, that is for sewing on plastics. It's a white plastic looking foot for my Viking. Check with your dealer, or if you machine came with a foot you are wondering what it's for, that may be it!!
I'm sorry that I can't give you any hints, Dianne, but I do want to say welcome and glad that you're here! *4U
Welcome to the cute fmly dianne.jrob has given u an excellent about needle size, but I also use a slower speed when I do plastic.Again welcome , We r glad to have u and a*4U
That sounds great, what stitch length would you suggest I use.
Thank you
Welcome. Hope you have many happy hours hear with us, :)
Thank you, what a quick fantastic result, when you live out in the bush there isn't any real backup, its learn as you go, I just love sewing and it keeps me sane when we are going through all these droughts and the death of stock realy gets to you, just to be able to lock your self away with your machine
Welcome to cute dianne, see you got your answer, hope your bags turn out o.k. love to see the finished product in projects
Yes I live out of Gunnedah, and I do sewing for a local craft shop, and it earns a little pin money.
Thank you
Use an 80 or 90 Sharp needle and tear away. The tear-away will make it move easier across the machine bed.;)
I am just thinking about make some. I decided not to use the plastic because it would make them hard to wash. I hadn't thought about it being hard to sew. This is a very good question. Perfect timing for me.
Actually I use the plastic on the outside so I don't have to wash it, if you use a good quality plastic they look very nice. Now I shall try the suggestion and hopefully it will make my life easier
