I read this in a link to one of Susa Glenn's designs. She says for decorative designs that aren't going to be washed every week, Rayon is better not because of the shine, but because it has an actual nap. Thus, if you embroider in different directions, just like a material with nap, the light is going to catch it in different ways, making the design far more interesting. Aha!!! I was wondering why, with Floriani coming out with the shiny thread that art embroiderers like Susa Gelnn & BFC Creations would still prefer Rayon. This sheds a lot of light (pun intended) on the choice. Thread with nap would make a design far richer, and look different from every angle & change in lighting. And now you know!! Thanks, Susa Glenn!! Marji

Marji even poly will have a different luster if U sew n a different direction. Try sew cross the diagonally or across the other way you will see a difference n the shades even though it's the same thread. I'm not knocking rayon, I have a lot of rayon hread & I use it.. *a

When I purchased my first embroidery machine, the dealer was pushing Isacord brand thread, so I bought a couple of spools. I had done some decorative stitching with my regular machine, so I had some embroidery thread. I imediately noticed how dull the Isacord stiched out. I love the Robinson-Anton thread both poly and rayon. Close runner up is thread from Long creek mills in N.C. and is only a stones throw away from Robinson-Anton in Mt.Holly, N.C. Sometimes I think they only change the label.

Thank you for sharing this bit of information. I love working with rayon, have done so for over 15 years, but this is new to me. Hugs and flowers. Martine.

Thanks Marji! I use Rayon for most of my projects because of the sheen.

That is very interesting, thank you for posting this info it will perhaps change my choice of threads, but I will still need to use the more durable polyester for the grandkids designs... they are such little grubs, their clothes are always in the wash! *4U

By the way, I almost always use Sulky Rayon and I'm the one who said don't bleach it, well, I've bleached DGS bib 6 times and it still looks great.;)
