Thanks so much for sharing this, it really puts it into perspective for me.
I visited New Orleans in 1999 and to see the devastation Katrina caused was absolutely heartwrenching for me, more so than many other natural disasters and I know natural disasters happen all over the world, even here in Australia, but I think the reason it affected me on such a deep level was because it was the first time it happened to a place I had actually been to. I still had vivid memories of all the places I had visited and to see everything, including all the wonderful history, all being wiped away, just really affected me. Such a tragic loss for everyone.
Now I get extremely anxious every time I hear the warnings of Mother Nature about to reak havoc upon our world and the people who will suffer. I pray that the damage will be minimal, but more importantly, that no lives will be lost. M

I hate to say it, but I am afraid there will be much damage. The storm was still 100 miles off shore earlier, but Galveston was already flooded. They were even talking about the possibility of 50 foot waves. The storm surge was supposed to go AT LEAST 8 miles inland.

Yes Katerina has left a lot of us with memories and to think we saw it all on tv and it just like 6 hrs from us.
