I have used them on t-shirts and sweatshirts (adult size) You don't have to do just red or blue..I did turtles in green on a gray sweatshirt that stitched out VERY Nice :)
If YOU don't ask then YOU won't learn, I've done the same thing here for several months...now I jump in :) *4U
I use RW on teatowel. Handtowels. Bathtowels. I have used them as a border on the bottom of a skirt and on Kitchen Curtins. They are quick to sew out & no changing cottons. I have also used the multi colored thread on RW.
Like you i was shy to submit or ask questions, so i sat on the outside for 6 months. I pop in most days its like having a friend over for a cupa.*4u
Don't ever feel you can't ask a question. YOur question could be someones elses but afraid of asking. So ask............we all don't mind, *4u all
You got many good answers, so all got let is to say Welcome to cute!!! Don't be afraid of asking.
We all start off with questions that we think dumb but that is not so The only thing that would be dumb is if no one ever asked any of these questions at all for then everyone wouldn't know what to do. Keep asking when ever and whatever as there are some people that are not as brave as others to ask and they are the ones that never grow. welcome to the family of well addicted crafters. Have fun with your designs one colour work looks good on anything plain. the princess lot look good on tote bags as well. happy stitching to you and a * for you .
Lots of help here. Just experiment until you find what you like best.
sweetie, such designs offer a multitude of possibilities. I am no expert either but so far I have tried them on quilts, greeting cards and fleece throw overs and always achieved very good results. If you sandwich a layer of batting between the stabiliser and the fabric and stitch a simple frame all around you get trapunto effect too. Thin fabrics such as cotton or satin work best for such effect (in my opinion). Next on my list to try such designs is on pillows and matching wall hanging but that will be done 'one day' lol. good luck with your new projects, and don't forget to post and show us :) *here's a flower for your bunch in the meantime.
tip: if you stitch them on fleece make sure you use wws on top of the fabric. and oh redwork stitches very nicely on felt - excellent for bookmarks, mobiles and decorations, (after stitching design just slip another piece of felt underneath the design, sew a simple or decorative stitch border and cut a few millimeters away from this border with normal or pinking scissors.. ta da... nice bookmarks, decorations, coasters or whatever) wow..... its almost midnight and I feel sooooo creative looooool - maybe I should start doing some for myself now!!!
Thanks, I absolutely would not have tried it on fleece. I would have thought it would sink into nothingness. I use WWS on almost everything. I may just make some bookmarks tonight. I have friends who do not have a embroidery machine and actually have time to read. Thanks again and sleep tight.
So now you know you don't have to hide. right? I like to use the redwork for quilts. They fancy up the plain alternating blocks. Jan
I didn't like rw at first. Then I saw them on tea towels...I thought, not bad. Then I saw a quilt done with rw bears and I thought, excellent! Now I think they are worth saving and I should do something with them. I haven't decided yet just what though. Just wait, they may grow on you. Good question!!! *4u
I always thought they were cute, just didn't have a clue what to do with them. Thanks for being honest and telling me you're DL them without a purpose. Makes me feel alot better about my DL problem.
if this qn is ridiculous, then i think i have to dig a hole and hide myself by now. hehehe.
i havent use them yet but i feel that they can go anywhere except thick towels (red/blue/multi color outlines).
Tea towels would b a good place to start. Look through the projects & you'll see the designs used n various ways. As 4 your ques. what everyone else has told U is true. there r no dumb quest. Ypu'll never no humiliation from a true cute because u do not know something. we r all here because we love what we do, & want U to also. We learn right along with U & help ea. other through a lot of trials & errors. Welcome debrar again to the cute fmly. U r n the process now of learning what the cute fmly is all about. Helping, loveing, giving, mentoring that's what cute do. *4u.
All of the above is true. That is why I took the risk to ask the question. I only just realized what this section was a few weeks ago. I already feel welcome and love it here. Thanks for all the encouragement.
Hi and welcome to Cute. As it has already been said, no question is stupid! Don't ever be afraid to ask. I have seen that type of design used when the material already has a print, such as a print top or blouse. That way, the embroidered design doesn't compete with the fabric design.
girl i am the queen of questions when i first started i did not even know what stabelizer was lol sometimes i look back at my old posts just to get a laugh everyone here is here to help each other no matter what it is you have some good answers so i will not say the same thing as they have
I took the classes when I got my machine, but we did not discuss RW. Thanks for the encouragement.
Please don't worry about what anyone here will think about your questions. We have already asked most of the ones we figured were dumb and guess what, they weren't and neither is your. Americangirl is correct, it is a matter of preference. You can just use them where ever you choose. The place that they originated was on a quilt square. You could do several and stitch them up into a quilt in no time. I suspect this came from someone who was a bit pressed for time and just did the outline....can you just hear the gossip from the ladies who spent days on a design??? They make very nice designs on shoe bags, t-shirts,make-up bags, laundry bags....just anywhere you want to put them. Being a sparse design they work particularly well on a stretchy material. ;)
Thank you for your encouragement. I had thought about the t-shirts, but was not sure they would hold up. I also thought about the quilt, but I'm not up for that project yet. I made one quilt with applique in a class this year. I decided right then I would embroider the sides of any more that I did. I appreciate the suggestions and I will just keep downloading.
Don't worry about humiliation and ridicule - we are all here to help each other. I'm still fairly new, and I haven't used any yet. I have seen them done one tea towels, and they looked nice. I guess it is just what you prefer. Hopefully someone will come along with an answer you can use. Keep asking, that's how we learn. :o)
