waste my money if it is just so so. I have to pay customs charges up here and the extra money could be spent elsewhere is this isn't worth it. Thanks in advance.

I have also been thinking about buying this. Now I won't. What a wonderful idea. I went to a Floriani seminar a few weeks ago & the hot tip for metallic thread is to place the spool upside down at the back of the machine but I haven't tried it yet... I love reading this forum for the great ideas. Thankyou

Mickey,
This comes from one dummy who purchased it...ME!!
DON'T!!!!! What a waste of money this "invention" is.
I had a very experienced embroiderer tell me to put a single spool thread stand behind and to the left of my machine, and run my metallic thread from there. Works about 98% of the time, and the thread stand was less than $10.00 If I'm using using a 5500 yd. spool (not metallic), I just set it behind the machine and not bother with the stand. I may be tempted to try the peanut method though...Barb

Don't need to purchase it. I have found a tip in one of the tutorials(there are many good ones) about putting the metallic thread in the freezer for a bit before using it. Apparently, the humidity in the freezer is what helps. It worked for me. the other thing you can try is placing the thread further from the machine if you still have problems; the distance seems to prevent the kinks in the metallic thread as well as the tendency to put too much stress on it which causes the thread to jerk and break. Hope that helps.

By the way NEVER throw out the peanuts. You can use a tad in your potted plants.Mix well in the soil then repot. This helps retain the water and prevents plants drying out.

I loved this question. I have often thought about whether to buy this gadget. Now I won't. I will just use my peanuts. Thank you *

I hope this is not too late. I purchased the Wonder Thread Guide. I ended up returning it, I could not get it to work on my Babylock. H&*

Micky dont waste your time or money it is ok but I really bought it to help with the metalic threads and it does not do that. I have recently got a hold of some packing peanuts as Jerri-lyn has said and will be trying that. If I had to do again I would not have purchased it. Hope this helps Lisa

I know this was quite some time ago, but it's still a great tip! Also, for you Canadians, SiCK has stabilizers, threads, etc. that he ships from Canada in Canadian dollars to his Canadian customers, and from USA to USA customers. Overseas, I'm not sure. Hugs, Marji

Okay girls. I now have my answer. I'll keep using my home made thread stand and throw in a packing peanut for good measure. I'll use my saved $$$$ for more thread. Thanks all. *'s all around.

I have a large spool holder behind my machine and I never use the holder that is built into machine. I do want to try the peanut trick... I use a lot of metalic at X-mas time... :)

I have it, but wouldn't waste my money. It's ok, but I find I set my large spools of thread in front of the machine & run them up, around the top of the spool holder that I've put upright & then thread the machine! Faster for me & works as well. I love the packing peanut trip & will probably try it!

I've seen it. But am always looking for cheaper solutions like the packing peanut idea. Sometimes we get sooooo much stuff that we don't make full use of everything.

I don't have it, but I also don't have problems with my threads. The only tricky one is metallics and my dealer told me to put the metallic on the regular thread stand (horizontal) the thread a sewing needle with the metallic thread. Sew directly through the center of a packing peanut and take off the needle. Finish threading my machine leaving the packing peanut at the initial point of entry to the threading process and voila! I don't even slow my speed down but about 10% and it doesn't twist or break.

WOW tyvm great tip, I have some metallics and have probs using them, can't wait to try this out! One question how do you get the "peanut" to stay in place?

jrob by jrob 29 Sep 2008

When the machine is going and the thread is being taken up, the thread will naturally be pulling through the machine and will keep itself taunt and the peanut won't go anywhere...I still reccommend sitting there while it's sewing if there is anything on your machine that might catch if there happened to be a droop. (Mine does in a big design when it has to "think".

I don't know what it is. I do have a 20 spool holder called "Thread Pilot" which I purchased on shoppers rule. I don't know if it is similar. I like it. I don't have my camera as my sweetie is putting more batteries in.

celticlady1031 by celticlady1031 30 Sep 2008

Yep even for a gift. I tell everyone to put a value of $20 no matter what it is. That's the only way I know of to avoid custom charges. Unfortunately, business don't/won't do that. Guess they might get into trouble.
