I was born in Pennsylvania I wish I could remember all their sayings. I now live in MN. Will you borrow me some money instead of loan me. I couldn't believe it when I first heard it up here.

When we moved to No. VA in 1965, I became good friends with a Penn. gal. But I had a HARD time understanding what "gum pants" & "gum bands" were!! (Rubber pants & rubber bands.) Now no one knows what rubber pants are due to Pampers & Huggies!

Well Damaris, perhaps you could tell me why Americans say rather "then" instead of rather than? or other "then" instead of other 'than'? in other words, why d'yall use the word THEN instead of THAN? Then (to us) means time as in now and 'then', or an alternative as in, 'then' there is this way to do it, or 'then' you proceed like this or there and 'then'.....
English language is so confusing at the best of times but I struggled most when trying to understand French Canadians at the airport, who seemed to think I should be able to follow their directions even when they were speaking 500 miles a minute with broad french accents. No wonder I ended up sitting on the floor in tears... LOL! And i'm not joking about that distressing time.

I married a hillbilly, and being a "northerner" I didn't know about ANY of these UNTIL we got married....I HATE to go south to 'see' the folks...they roll up the sidewalks at 6:30 pm and get up at 4 am... :)
