Tried asking this question to SimplyRosie but she has replied & have seen her here lately. Would it be inappropriate to stitch a Menorah on a tea towel?

Carolyn, I emailed Teri this is what she said: "Let her know that there is nothing in Jewish law (halakhah) that says you can't... the menorah isn't a Holy symbol.... however, I personally wouldn't... but that is MY preference... Rabbi Levin, a well known Chabad Rabbi, says it's fine. I gave him a holler." Now you have the answer straight - right? Hehehe! Shirlene

Have you emailed her? I can pass this on to her - if you have not.

I tend to have kind of skewed opinions, so take this for what it's worth. If a menorah makes you think of the miracle it represents, turns your mind to God, and you do that while you're wiping dishes, why not? Once a neighbor chastised me for hanging out my washing on 'The Lord's Day'. I don't know if she understood, but I explained that it was more worship than work. The sun was perfect, & the light breeze, and I praised the wonder of clean sheets, having enough water to wash them, raised my hands full of clothspins, my face in the sun, full of gratitude for it all. Was it wrong? For me, it wasn't. For someone else, it might have been. I'd say, use your own best judgment as to the use you'll put it. And where has Teri been, anyway? I miss her. Marji

I have been surprised that she hasn't been around. Guess with the web site she is very busy.

I am not an authority, but I think the only way that it would be respectful is if it were being used in some type of religious ceremony. Perhaps someone else will come along and enlighten all of us.;)

You are right about the edit feature. We do need one.
I would think that depends on what you are going to do with the tea towel. If you are going to wipe the dishes with it then I don't think it would be the right thing to put on there, as well as being a waste. If you are going to use it to drape over food or other things, then I think it should be OK.

Sorry- that should read "...she has NOT replied..." and "have NOT seen her..." We need an edit feature for people like me!
