I've bn reading about them over a yr. now, but don't really think I need one. *4U
I just ordred the program about 3 weeks ago and it's WONDERFUL!!!! It unzips files and puts all the files that were zipped into a seperate folder, if there are multiple formats in a zip file (PES, PCS, VIP, ART) it will keep the file that you set up as your preferred format and delete the rest. If your format doesn't exist, it keeps the next one down on the list (that you set up) and deletes the rest. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me. griffincreations@yahoo.com. I HIGHLY recommend it. Eric
Oh now that part I do like lol can you set it up to keep designs in more than one folder? Like the FSL main folder and then Christmas FSL? Can you keep track of the sites you get designs from?
Thanks Eric! Does more than I thought. Then do you transfer into your files already set up? My files are very organized. I can download in several formats but only change them to PES when I stitch them out. What would it do to those files?
I also bought this a few months ago. I only "dedupe" small quantities - as I finish an alphabet, or am set to use a design category that I set up, I just "dedupe" that one file or group of files. It helps reduce the size of files I'm storing. And, by doing it a small group at a time, I don't run into the problem of storing files in two categories, because I never dedupe those two categories at the same time. One click and it unzips, separates out preferred file types, and gives a list of proposed deletions that you can override. I find it quite slick!
I like my duplicates actually I duplicate a lot of the files so I can look in different sub folders to find them. I wouldn't want to have just one copy of a design to scared I would lose it somewhere and not remember where I put it lol.
I heard of it on Artistic Thread Works, but I don't have one. I keep pretty good track of what I have, and if I have duplicates, it's for a reason. For instance, a redwork flower design might be in both 'redwork' and 'flowers', because the old brain ain't what she used to be, and I sometimes forget what I'm doing. Hard to believe, but true, hee hee hee. Or, if I'm looking to do specifically redwork, I might like that flower design. If I want specifically a flower, I might like that redwork one. But I might not remember to look in several places when I sort through. So, probably it wouldn't work for me. But y'all who collect so many freebies, it might be a good thing. Take a look on the ATW site, see if you can get any more info, I believe Larry recommends it, and I'd trust Larry on almost anything. Best of luck, Marji
from what I have read it is not a necessity. If you use a programme to sort your designs but leaving original d/l in tack it does not matter if you have more than one copy. Money better spent on cottons etc.
I'm pretty organized and my anti-virus program does its part. I do occasionally find a duplicate (as we all probably do). In my different folders (animals, flowers, etc) I also have subsets for "redwork", "fsl", "applique" etc. So that way I'm not hunting everywhere.
My anti-virus program catches any viruses and my 4D embroidery prevents duplicates so wouldn't really need it, but if you don't have some type of program already it might be a good deal.
My anti-virus also catches anything, but my embroidery program doesn't catch designs that might be duplicated because I had renamed one of them. Supposibly this program does. How is beyond me. :)
