Looks like you got some great answers. Good luck! I just started doing FSL too, and it's really fun.

First of all U need a FSL Design. Use the same thread on your bobbin that your sewing with. & sit back & let the machine do it 4 u. U need to hoop with Wss stabilizer, I like the kind that looks more like fabric than the clear plastic type. Some use two layers of Wss, A lot depends on the design itself if it is real dense I would use 2 layers. After u have stitched out the design soak it in a little warm water & the stabilizer dissolves leaving u the Free Standing Lace design. *4u

There are good tutorial of FSL on many sites, and several have been mentioned here at Cute. Now, if I were doing the paperdolls, I would stitch out on felt, and a tear away stabilizer. Try going to emblibrary and watching their FSL tutorial. If these don't help you, then please let us know and we will get you going.

FSL (free standing lace) is the easiest thing in the world to do and so rewarding. It is amazing to watch it almost come to life. All you need to do is hoop some WSS (water soluble stabilizer) load your design thread your machine and push start.
