I just use regular bobbin thread. First time I used metallics I also used the regular needle and not the metallic one - did just fine - now I know differently and use the metallic one just in case.
I find regular bobbin thread is good, but make sure you use a Metafil needle. It avoids so much frustration, and is worth the extra money!
I have a Designer 1 and use my normal bobbin thread with metallic, that causes no problems. When the embroidery has a lot of stitches the thread might get too twisted; in that case I turn the cone around so the thread unwinds in the opposite direction, as soon as the twists disappear I put the cone back to the usual position. And I use a heavy metal needle because the eye is larger and thus gives less friction.
I just used my regular bobbin thread I always use, Iris. Some say you need to adjust the tension, but I don't do anything differently. I have a thread stand that allows the metallic to unwind a lot before it stitches out. Might want to wait for others who have done more with metallic thread, and tell us what kind of machine you have, that way the gals who have that machine can give you more expert advice. I have Janome 300E, I use metallic just like any ordinary thread with no problems. Best of luck, Marji
Thanks Marji, I have a Pfaff Creative Vision. Will wait for some more answers before start. Go away for a few days to my GD.
