Before I spend more time (and thread) testing it out with other colors, I was wondering if anyone else has had issues using metallic rather than regular threads on FSL designs. Thanks as always for sharing your knowledge and insights!

I use metallic thread with a regular 14 needle and have no trouble... I have tried metallic needles but notice very little difference. I must admit though that I watch that thread very carefully and usually hold my hand up close to the thread guide as to make sure no tangles get through.

Happy stitching!

I use metallic thread on alot of my FSL - especailly for Christmas - the last one I did was the 3 Silver Bells from Sue Box, I never have much trouble with it - I alway use a metallic needle and net around the large spool - sitting on a spool stand in front of my machine. I always buy the best thread whenever possible - I actully have less trouble with the metallic thread than I do regular embroidery thread - good luck and hope you share your project with us soon.

After MANY headaches with metallic thread, I think I finally have the answer. I got a net to put over the thread to keep it from coming off the spool so fast and knotting up. I use a metallic needle and slowed the machine down. I use 300 stiches per minute. I also use 2 layers of WSS. I did the bells in all metallic and looked great.

make sure that you use the metallic needle when you use metallic threads. I have done some things and it work great - others look like - you know what! Hope it works out or you.

I know that Shirlener has had sucess with metallic thread. You could also look in Emlibrary for their video's by Kenny. There are many helpful things there. H&*.

Hi, I embroidered Marie Osmond's FSL Angel just this week-end. The only way it would work was to embr. it on organza and to slow down the machine to 500 St/min. Had "only" 3 hiccups... ha.. Good Luck. Mary

Metalic thread can be troublesome in the best of circumstances! The only suggestions I have would be to slow down your machine if you can, and place the thread as far away from the machine as possible. This gives it a chance to untwist before going through the machine, You should also be using a large eye metalic needle. You might also try bypassing the final thread holder before it reaches the needle. Of course the better quality thread makes a big difference too. I'm sure others will have some good ideas to share.

Thanks, I'll try slowing it down, hopefully that will make a difference.
