Try shaving the back of the design with a non-electric shaver like a gillette razor blade type shaver as in one of the disposable kind.
The fuzzy sweater shaver has not worked for me - just ripper and tweezers. I've also been told an electric razor works - but did not for me. Good luck with the patience!
I hope you got it out by now, Adelmarie! Personally, for mistakes like that, I just start over. I don't do work for other people, though, just for me, so it's not like I can't just get another t-shirt, towel, etc. But, being somewhat compulsive, and a quilter, I do tend to measure and fool around forever before I start to sew. Seems like time wasted sometimes, but I'm too old to see those little stitches to clip out, hee hee hee. I'd use CutiePie's razor idea, but I'm not allowed to have sharp objects, giggle, tee heee. Best of luck, Marji
Thanks Maji, I am slowly working on it. I usually print out the template and place it on the fabric to ensure that my hoop placement is right. This time my husband was sending out a box next day, so I wanted to get the shirt done in a hurry to place it in the same box before he shipped it. Guess what? Did not happen and now I wish I would have taken my time to measure. :( Oh well, that is how we learn *2U
No words of wisdom as I usually get a hole as my eyes don't see good enough and I end up getting the shirt.I hope you can save it,here's a flower 4 u Good luck!
Thank you, I have tried it twice before and on both ocassions I also got holes. That is why I figured better ask before I messed it up as it is for a gift.
I too am in the same boat. I did the same thing about a month ago on a tablecloth I was making. So I threw it aside and decided I would deal with it after the new year.So I am glad you asked the question as it gave me some ideas also. Thanks to all the cuties for their help. and good luck to you adelmarie. Let me know how it works out for you. *4u
I personally haven't use the thread shaver (they're pretty expensive I believe), but have seen it done at my dealer's shop... Personally, I end up ripping it out manually... what a big bummer, huh! Don't you just hate that when it happens... oy vey!
I've made a few goof ups and thought I would buy the thread shaver (I got it on sale but was still expensive,) it didn't work at all. Thank goodness I can use it on my dogs or cats when when they get mats in their fur or it would have be a total waste of money!
Lots of good advice here. I have one of those titch erasers that helps but you still need the tweezers and scissors and patience... Good luck.
I feel your pain. I have caused many holes even trying to be so very careful.
I am so sorry your having to redo something. take it slow and work from the back of the item. If you feel like your losing the war. STOP for awhile and come back to the task. It helps me to have my favorite music playing.
Good Luck,
Brenda Lea
You have ood answers but wanted to wish you luck and patience Also a flower for you
Heed cutie Pie's advice. The bobbin thread is the key to removing the stitches. I clip the bobbin thread with very tiny sharp scissors or seam ripper, but prefer the scissors, patience is the key to it all. Believe me I have covered up many a hole'till I learned this. Good luck *4U
Thanks Lillian, I was trying to get the bobbin thread but the stitches are really small and it is really hard to see them, maybe my eyes just get tire and do not see them anymore. *2U
Just take your time..don't get in a hurry to pull the longest thread that you can get a hold of...that's when ya get holes...BE PATIENT....Happy Un-stitching...I've done it MANY a Time:(
Made 2 mess ups lately, Seam ripper and daughter for the small stitches as I cant see them she in invaluable. good Luck Lisa
you gotta love tweezers. My big ole machine and I are off to the shop to see why it won't pick up the bobbin thread. If you need practice, you can have my mess up.
adelmarie, by now - you have used the techniques that you have been given or you have given up - which is it and what did you end up with? Curious minds need to know?????
Well Shirlene, I have to confess that I got frustrated and had a fear that was going to poke a hole on the shirt. I just gave up for the day that day and have been working slowly on it for the last two days. I used a seam ripper and tweezers. It is almost done but I have been working long shifts at work, so I just worked on it for about 30 minutes yesterday and today about 45 min. almost got it, I guess all I needed was patience. Thanks for your concern *2U
Oh no! What was the design sewn on? Remember that your bobbin thread will be much shorter because proper tension for embroidery will have the top thread pulled down to the bottom. If you can get a hold of the bobbin thread, you may be able to just pull it out and the top thread then falls out. If your fabric is sturdy enough, you could rehoop your design and then take a new disposable razor and carefully "shave" it on the back side. Just be careful so that you don't cut through the material. Even those "sweater fuzz shavers" can be of some help. A good seam ripper is invaluable, but I also love my super-sharp, very pointed embroidery scissors. Good luck and I'm sending you good, positive vibes that it will not be so frustrating!
Thanks a lot Cutiepie, Glad to see you around. It was a mix of spandex and cotton shirt, and the design is a monogram. The stitches are so tiny that are been a real pain but slowly have been working my way around with a seam ripper. *2U
No advice, just good luck, I caught one of mine just after the design started, and that was a bit of a trial, Meganne has given so good advice!!
Oh I know how you feel. I tried to unpick & put a whole in the towel. Arrrrrr I always go by this rule, Measure twice ,cut once. Well you are not cutting but it applies . Hope you feel better now :)
I always print out a template and check the placement a couple of times but I wanted to get this shirt done quick. It ended up taking me longer :( Leason learned for me.
OH NO! How terrible. sorry i don't have any easy way other than using a seam ripper from the wrong side, snip every 4th -5th stitch all over then go to the other side and lift the thread betweeen the snips and pull. I use tweezers to save my fingers.
Hope it helps.
hnr, Meganne
Hi Adelmarie- Here it is over a year later and I am in need of the same advice. Thanks for posting this question I will have to give the disposable razor a try :)
