Well - here is a little hint, and I don't think that anyone has answered. I attended a weekend seminar and this was discussed. They showed us how to do the design, take a stencil cutter that has been heated and carefully "burn" the design from the excess materials. Worked so great that I went to Joann's and used a 50%off coupon - yep, I am a bargain shopper, and got it for $7.50. Still gets hot! so be careful. I have cut my designs away previously, but sure like this method. It also does not allow and little "thread fringe" on the design. This is about the same as what was previously mention as using a soldering iron, but this little tool is small, and has (2) tips.
I did 2 ornaments as you guessed, and they looked beautiful. I believe I read someplace that you could embroider any design on organza to make it appear free standing. I would think you would have to consider density of the stitch.
Oh thank you girls! I shall try doing different methods this weekend. xoxo
If you go to www.emblibrary.com then go to projects, Kenny has advice on how to embroidery on organza. This site has so much help on all different fabrics to embroidery on. I go there often myself. H&*.
I read somewhere to use your hot fix applicator and flat tip to melt bits off cant remember where though and have not tried. Lisa
ok how to do it! sew out as allready advised on double organza the crystal organza will add a bit of sparkle to the design. Next sneak into hubys workshop and grab his soldering iron, you need to file the soldering tip to a nice point alomost like an eyebro pencil. an old nail file will do the tick and it will also clean the tip. plug in and let it warm up. YOU DO NOT TOUCH THE ORGANZA WITH THE HEAT TIP. remove as much excesse with scissors and the lay the design down on a wooden surface and carefull allow the heated tip to melt the bits of the organza. keep a damp cloth handy to wipe away any mess from the tip as you go( melted plastic goes black)if possible you can wet the design so that it is not scorched just take a nice deep breath and have a go
try useing the tip on a bit of scrap first to get the feel for it and use like a pencil.
hope this will help. the soldering iron will also fuse the hot fix gems in place, just a count of 8 on the top of the gem will do the trick. its also good for cut work to remove fabric before its edged hubby will never know. hope this will help you
I done it like Shirlene 2 layers of organza a good design and a little patience while cutting!
I have seen Nancy Zeamen of sewing with Nancy burn with a small heating tool on her show. She made sure to say not to burn yourself with it.
as for me. I just cut when I use netting on some of my WSS and FSL items.
God Bless, Brenda Lea
I seem to remember reading somewhere about burning the edges with a tool like a mini soldering iron, not an open flame, but try as I might i don't really remember where i saw it. Sorry Terri. hnr, M
I stitch on 2 layers of Tulle all the time and just use a sharp scissors to trim...I've never tried the burn method..me and hot don't go together:)
Teri, I generally will use two layers of organza - no WSS - stitch the design - unhoop - cut as close to the edges of the stitching as possible - without cutting the threads of the outside satin stitch. It takes time - but if you use a Duck Bill Applique scissor - it works better. I have heard of the burning with a hot tool - which I have, but have not found the need to use it, yet. Good luck. Whatcha working on?
Have you looked on Emblibrary for tutorials on this Terri? I thought they had one there.
I found one at Advanced Embroidery Designs, but haven't checked it out
and there's another one at About.com
hope this helps, hugs n roses, M
In both cases they stitch on tulle between to layers of wss (the clear type) and cut it away afterwards. No burning suggested here.
I don't know is this is the correct way, but the way I do it, two layers of vilene, organza in the middle, cut it close, burn the edges ot the organza.***
please how do you burn the organza. looks like it would mess up the design. I an new at this FSL I am having a bad time with it.
Yes, tha is what you burn with, mops is correct.I will post for you something I did, I used tulle, I like it better than the organza, but for somethings you have to use organza.****
