New years will be JUST another Day... I too am glad that Christmas is over...I did shop 3 days..one for grandson..he got a guitar..one for grandaughter..got a leap pad/games and clothes and then I got a card in the mail from a secret santa and it had a gift card with a large amount of money...I went to the walmart and bought someting for each of my 3 kids. So everybody had "something" :) The true meaning of Christmas HAS TO come back to the world one by one I think WE can make it happen...just by making our own gifts doesn't give in to the commercialism that meganne spoke of. Have a wonderful day today and a better one tomorrow:) Barb

I agree too. I made all my own gifts again this year and I think they are more appreciated anyway...Alot of time and effort goes into them...

The day of Christ's birth has become something it was never meant to be, all because of the commercialisation by businesses to compete for our every dollar.

I have always loved Christmas because of the spirit of goodwill that could always be FELT amongst everyone you met, during the days leading up to the big day.

This Christmas, that spirit was sadly lacking as shoppers cursed each other over parking spaces, fought over the last availablle shopping trolley and generally walked about in a state of stress because they didn't know what to buy Aunt Mary or Uncle John, or even because they begrudged all the hassle of buying presents at all.

There were NO Christmas Hymns or even Christmas Carols being piped through the shops or shopping centres, the only songs i heard were those I was singing, at the top of my lungs as i spent my one night Christmas shopping before facing surgery. There were very few Christmas movies screened on telly and I felt a sadness that we appear to have lost sight of the real meaning of Christmas.
It's not supposed to be about the perfect present, the perfect tree, the perfect turkey, the perfect (staged) family photo, or the perfect house decorations.....
i always thought it was about being with family, friends and neighbours, sharing love and laughter and whatever Christmas fare has been bestowed upon us, while celebrating the birth of God's greatest gift to us, the Gift of Life through that of his son.
I pray with all my heart i will be around to celebrate 'my idea' of Christmas next year and I'll be doing my utmost to restore the spirit of the True Meaning of Christmas amongst everyone I meet.
hugs n roses, Meganne

Yes, I totally agree with you. I avoided the shops this week, and certainly kept away today and will until it is all over..
I hope you will be able to celebrate your idea of xmas next year, and I am sure you will....

I am glad it is all over. So much trouble for one day. Why can't we feel for each other all year round and not just at Christmas

It is kind of funny how easily it gets over isn't it. Really sued to hate it when I was young (a long time ago). Now it is just another day. I hope your 2009 is super.
