I see you got excellent answers, Elaine. I also hate jumps and I have seen many poor designs out there, and sure that is frustating.
They are digitized by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. I delete those from my computer when I find them.
Meganne is right. This does happen with auto digitizing. That is why some of those designs are either free or very cheap to buy. They are "mass produced".That is why sometimes you might find the same design from someone else costing more. Because that digitizer took more care and manually digitized it.You only really get what you pay for.
Hi Elaine,
It sounds to me like the design has been "Auto" digitised and then the design has probably been 'Masked' to remove a dense layer stitches from the underlying stitches created by the Auto digitising.
If this design was a 'freebie' then I guess it is obvious why it was free.
If it was a purchased design I would write to the digitiser and let him/her know you are disappointed in the way the design stitches out.
If it is a design you REALLY MUST HAVE
and if it is ***NOT*** a protected/copyrighted design
(such as one that has been created from "Public Domain" clipart), you could perhaps pay another digitiser to, manually, digitise the design for you.
without mentioning the digitiser, you could post a picture of the design and surely someone here could tell you whether or not it is from Public Domain clipart.
Hope this helps, hugs n roses, M
I can't say for sure, but illogical jumps are a sign of autodigitizing. You might want to contact the customer service of wherever you purchased the designs and ask for assistance or an explanation.
Simplyrosie gave you a very good answer I agree with every single word of her post. *2U
Whad does OESD stand for? I see it on here all time I am new at this.
I have bought lots of designs that have a lot of jump stiches I am sure the ones i did had to many but I tried as I did not know how to hide them I had one lesson and did 108 designs to make a quilt it turned out beautiful but I did have several jump stiches.
Oklahoma Embroidery Supply & Design aka www.embroideryonline.com. Did you post your quilt in the projects?
I've had this problem with designs I've had to convert. Sometimes using a different software to convert them helps, sometimes not. However, I have quite a few designs from OESD and have not had a problem with any of them. Contact their customer service and tell them what problems you are having, which designs, and your machine type. I'm sure they will help. Yes, their designs are expensive, I subscribed to their club before I knew about Cute and all the nice designs available on the web for free or inexpensive. I haven't bought from OESD since because of the price, but do get a lot of mileage from most of the designs I bought.
I have also not purchased too many designs from OESD since I have discovered so many nice sites on line.

Elaine, some designs are just poorly digitized... A good designer will limit the amount of jump stitches not only because of thread waste, but because it could alter the stability of the design (the bobbin thread can pull if you don't have a machine that automatically clips them). I HATE designs that have a lot of jump stitches and end up either editing them myself or dumping them from my collection. :-(

Thanks for your answer Teri. I find the problem in some of the OESD designs so I am reluctant to stitch them. after paying the price for them it is really frustrating.
