I need to know if anyone here do embroidery for other people and what are your prices? Do you have one set price for things or do you go by the letter?

I undercut myself terribly. I chg $3-$5 a design and they supply the item to be embroidered. In this case I am not pd for my labor, but I am keeping busy and in this economy it is the best I can pray for.

I was told to charge a "set up" fee plus so much per 1000 stitches. I try to go on the low side, BUT still people are shocked at the cost. I charge a $10 set up fee, then 80 cents per 1000 stitches. However, I was told it should be $1 per 1000. Had several people call this Christmas for monograms, but when they hear the price they didn't call back. I'm sorry to have to charge, BUT I do so many gifts I can't work for nothing for strangers! I put items in a shop and those I have to be lower as the lady marks them up & takes 30% of the sale. It's really hard to judge the going price for items!! Good luck!

Thanks for asking your question, I haven't done much for sale, I usually end up doing it free, because I didn't know what to charge. Thanks and a flower for you!

I have done some for sale and it depends. If I am monograming I charge a $20 set up fee plus $5 for each shirt I embroider. For names I charge $5 per item. I make burp pads & bibs and I charge $8. A lot of people charge by the number of stitches in a design.

lap quilts I've gotten anywhere from 25.00 to 40.00.
Other items that don't cost alot less. I've made table runners, made from the grip shelf liner, (rubber maid) type, I'v only charged 5.00, everything was done with scrap fabric. I agree with you it's difficult, plus you don't want to out bid yourself of some side money.

This is a great question.. Alot depends on where you live and what your economy there is. I live in AR and did some sewing this past Christmas. If it's just lettering I charge $2.00 per letter or $7>00 per item if there are less than 3 letters.Like monograms. If I am doing a design I charge $10 - $15 depending on the detail and they provide the shirt or material. I am looking forward to hearing what others charge. Thanks for the question.

Thanks this will help me out a great deal. Because I stay in Mississippi and the Delta area is in a very bad time right now with all the factories closed and people have to travel 1 hour to try to get a job.

i charge per 1000 stitches. eg. in South Africa it will be plus minus R3.00 per 1000 stitches. Plus they pay the price of the article I embroider on. If they give their own article to embroider on, I just charge for the stitches. I hope it can help a little

I've only done a few. Usually quilts, lap quilts etc with specific designs. I've done a few fairies and depending on the size and time. I usually get about $10 for an average size design, if they supply the shirt, etc.
