comes unthreaded on 5 & 6. I find the only way to get through a design without that happening is to put my finger under #5. Really dangerous I know. But I find that my thread don't break anymore either.

Look in yellow pages or try online for a dealer close to you that repairs Brother...You are going to hurt yourself or the machine if you don't take it in...I had to tighten that thread holder at one time...almost turned machine upside down to get to it...MAKE SURE IT IS UNPLUGGED!
