I use the system of the different folders and sub folders as well. I don't make folders by digitizer but when I DL a design I directly copy the site out of the browserline and add it behind the name of the design. So I have all dogs in the file "animals" It looks like this "butterfly2032195 designs.cuteembroidery.com".
This works for me but I don't know if it works for you too. When I DL

I make up a folder each month then have sub folders in side with Flowers, animals, butterflies etc. Then after the end of the month I add them to my USB Stick or Memory card etc. Then put the Folder on to my External Hard Drive in case I need them later. I also get pictures of the designs where ever I can and rename them so they are the same as the design file this ways it makes them easier to find. It takes a while but it works well for me

Just to be different I file them in folders by the designer or website they came from. That way i keep track of licences for use of the design. For the most part this works, but sometimes I know I have a design but can't remember who it came from. Usually though I have favourite digitizers whom I know make nice and reliable designs, so tend to use mostly those designs. I also have done a thmubnail printout, although not for a while now.

Ricky gave you a very good answer. I use the same method. I also make folders for those designer from which I have many design or from membership designs.

Make folders and subfolders and put the appropriate designs in each folder eg Flowers go in flower folder;roses go in flower subfolder called Roses;Kids go in Kids folder; animals go in aninmal folder;dogs go in animal subfolder called Dogs. etc, etc, etc. Quite easy. Then when you download designs put them immediately into their respective folders. If you want to back them up on CD, use a different CD for each folder.

Would you believe that is just what I have been doing... sitting her bringing in the new year trying to organize these designs so I can find what I am looking for! Does that tell us how 2009 will be? unorganized???? I sure hope not... When you get the hang of what you are doing clue me in on it. haha.... Have a great new year!
