YOU COULD ALSO CONTACT DELL WITH THIS. THEY CUSTOMIZE FOR YOU NEEDS WHEN ORDERING. THEY ALSO MAY CONTRIBUTE OR AT LEAST GIVE A GREAT DISCOUNT.
Has anyone thought of contacting Bill Gates, Microsoft Corporation to ask if they would be interested/able to help or any other large Software or computer companies to ask if they have any superceded models they may be replacing with new ones. Usually the old machines are just dumped.
hugs n roses, Meganne
Wow, great idea - how would one go about contacting them? Hmmmmmm! You want to write that email?
Oh Shirlene, I am struggling at the moment as I have to go back into hospital to have one surgery site reopened to drain the massive amount of Lymph fluid that is now causing me great pain and distress, hence my very infrequent visits. My left side is now larger than my original 36d cup.
I guess a private letter to Bill Gates at Microsoft Corporation or personal visits to any local businesses using computers, if enough Stateside members were prepared to try surely one would have to succeed in getting a laptop donated...
hugs n blessings a very sore and sorry, Meg
Shirlene I will be sending some US$ in a card. If u don't receive it by the end of January 09 please let me know. u have my email address. I suggest that u collect then shop. Goodluck.
wendymae60, I will look for it and let you know. Thanks for caring for Loretta.
So far we have received money from THREE of our CUTE FAMILY - with donations for toward the savings for a laptop - they know whom they are - thank you - you also have PM - we will deposit their donations into a savings that has been established for Loretta, until enough funds have been collected to make a purchase. Thank you for caring for Loretta.
Bringing this back to the top. Some may have missed this due to the holiday chaos.
Hope we can get this to her asap.
Thank you all for your PM's and email - we look forward to receiving any help that you can offer and rest assured - if we do not collect enough money to follow through with this venture - the money will be returned - so make sure your address is on your correspondance. Thank you for caring for Loretta.
I would be happy to help. As a suggestion, DH gave me a Acer mini laptop for Christmas. They retail around $300-$350. It is a full computer, just smaller in size. About the size of a portable DVD player. If we all contribute a couple dollars, we can do this for Loretta.
One thing an Acer does not have is a CD drive. Your would be able to connect a jump drive or a memory card.

Linda, those are adorable - but I do believe the size will be much to small for Loretta to be able to navigate and use - I don't believe that size would work for her - but that is a great deal. Thanks.
missed this story too somehow... whose address do we send a card to? I'd like to help also Jo
Has anyone near her tried the Make a Wish Foundation?
Make a Wish wouldn't work. That organization grants wishes for seriously ill children under 18 yrs. Wonderful organization though. My son had his wish granted by them 22 yrs ago.
I'm aware of at least one exception, I was not aware they had any age limits. However, I would be happy to contribute, please let us know how.
As loving and caring as most on this site can be, we can sure all pull together and see that this happen. Please let us know how we can all help.
Just by PM shirlener with a donation, even a couple of dollars will help. Thanks.***
Some of the computer stores have used ones or referbished ones. I have one that cost $300 and for little things it's ok. Need to know what the needs will be. DVD"s, music, gaming ect will all affect what you are able to buy with what. Also check with BEST BUY or other major stores. You have to have written requests, but the are good for donating things, even software. Let us know where to send the money and I'll pitch in.

OH Maria, you are at work at all times - are you not? Loretta would be pleased that you are thinking of her - in this respectful way - a laptop would be a very useful tool for her - from time to time - this I am sure of - but more than likely - she would need help getting on and off it - some of her memory has been affected - she needs help with most things these days - if a laptop were purchased or donated for her - I know I can assit her with it - but I also know - she doesn't want her full name, her illness, or her address on the web - in any fashion and I do hope you understand - she is a very private lady - we have to respect that - what do you need to do this or what sort of help can I be?
well...can you check on prices, etc.,since you live closer to her,Then we'll take it from there. God will provide.
After knowing how much money we need, we can post in personal what we can afford to send and when.
I most certainly can check on prices - but I don't have any clue how we could possibly gather that much money together - that is expecting everyone to add to it and I am not sure that we could get that much help - do you?
Shirlener, something incredible happened, we have a cutie that offer to help us out, maybe even paying for the whole computer, but I think we should all help a little.GOD IS GREAT.
this is GREAT - please Private Message with information if you care to assist.
Until we know more about what will happen, I'll hold off writing in to the talk show...
Look at Best Buy, they have sometime good laptops (new, not refurbish) at $400 or $500
Maria, just let us know if you figure out something I will be glad to help. *2U
I found it. It's in jrob's post on Nov 25, 2008 when you click on Miss Loretta Scholarship. The link isn't on every page. It's on the right side of the screen under Ask the Community on the community, general page.
I thought if you clicked on the Miss Loretta Scholarship there was a link to information about her situation. I can't find the link now. Does anyone know how to get there?
Don't forget to get one with Wireless Connectivity capabilities if it is available for Loretta.
If we all sent 1 or 2 us$ a computer could be brought and engraved. Later it could be donated to the Hospice for other patients to use
I would send 1 or 2 usa dollars through the mail inside a card (Early Birthday) to someone who will collect & buy for Loretta It would be easier for Loretta if she also has a wireless mouse & maybe an external Drive.
Will you be able to do this Shirlene using the address we sent cards too? I feel that I should be saying something else but I'm not feeling to bright at the moment so forgive any errors, thankyou.
http://www.hcditrading.com has refurbished laptop with wifi costs start about $200. I got my Mom both desktop and laptop both for $450. Got Microsoft XP, DVD player, and 2G of ram. Worth it a try.
wow, great price!!!Thanks. Now we ONLY need to figure out how to get the money...Thanks****
There is a computer radio talk show in my area that I will contact with the situation. Perhaps the host can either lead us in the right direction or hook us up with a discount (or free) laptop. Is there someone who knows more of the details than I do? I just know the bare minimum. Maybe someone could write up the story for me?
this is a wonderful Idea , I do not know the story I am pretty new here but I am sure some one does.
Oh I agree.... a great idea. I also am not aware of the story.... prehaps someone would be willing to share a bit of information. I am sorry if I have not been paying attention...
all that I know is that she is in the Hospice, I hope one of the cuties can tell us more about her.****thanks.
