and simple utility thread for everyday work IE sewing totes. there was one problem in that i kept getting my bobbins mixed up and useing the more expencive finner thread for utility as it looks the same in the bobbbins

I have now found a way to instantly tell the difference between the two. ALL my fine thread bobbin spools have been marked with red indelible ink on the tops, these are kept filled with just the good fine thread. PLus if like me you want to start a project but there is going to be insuficiant thread on the bobbin to complete it then simply join the threads together with a knot, snip off the tails and continue to fill the bobbin, as long as the knot is secure and no long tails left hanging it will pass through the bobbbin case with no difficulty. no more wasted thread , no more haveing to stop and fill or change the bobbin half way through and no more finding that the embroiderry design has only been half completed as you just had to leave it for a few minutes for a comfort break and then you have to back track to find the starting point again because the darn bobbin has run out.
i hope this will be found usefull to some of you

I do the same as Shilene Annie, - I have several different bobbin holders for mine, never have messed it up, as yet, I put the regular one in a drawer - that I have to take out or reach to get,the others are close by, to the embroidery threads. Will try the tip on bobbin thread with a knot. Thanks eggyannie

This is a good idea. I am going to try this, as I have several bobbins with small amounts of thread. Thank you

I've been doing this ever since I started the embroidering only I mark the reg thread bobbin & leave the embroidery thread unmarked. I guess because I do so much more embroidering than reg sewing. I'll have to try the knotting of the threads on partially filled bobbins. *

Annie, tht sounds like a great tip - I have several different bobbin holders for mine - never have messed it up - put the regular one in a drawer - that I have to take out or reach to get - the others are close by - to the embroidery threads. THANX!

I will try tying...I have many bobbins with just a little left as I don't like starting big projects without a full bobbin. Thanks...

Great ideas! I keep my bobbins in a separate container, but I like your idea of marking the bobbins. I never thought to knot the thread, I'm going to try it. I was wrapping it on to an old spool to use for basting.

I have used several brands. Some machines only "like" some of them. Buy one and try it. Yes, you are wasting $ when you don't always need the same color in the bobbin. I use white if it's not going to show on both side & black on dark materials. Only use the same thread on FSL. Sulky is about the cheapest, and my machine doesn't mind it! I also get nebs prewound bobbins.

I use a red bobbin holder for embroidery bobbins, a blue one for regular, that works fine for me. And I too knot bobbin thread. It does not interfere with the tension on my Designer 1, but it does not work on my other machine, there the thread just breaks. So my advice try it out and see if it works for you(r machine).
