I use a peg board above my sewing desk with lon hooks for trim, and small ones for storing the hoops and hankging thread holders. Underneath is 2 3 door cabinets for storing patterns and large accessories like satbilizer etc. A small 5 ddrawer thing sits on my desk for notions like buttons etc. IN the closet I fold and hang my big chunks of fabric, and use shelves to store the smaller or bulkier ones. Remnants are in those 3 drawer carts that I can see thru and are organized by color set. Work pretty well :-)
We did a search on sewing rooms on the net and found pics of other we likes and kinda went off that that

Just draw out what you want. Then look at it for a few days. My fabric is in a cupboard with glass panes so I can look at it. It doesn't get direct sun which is something you should consider. You should consider how much fabric you have. I would think you could store more in a cupboard, but not sure. My thread is in drawers. I can open and see exactly what I have. Go on the Koala sites, I'm sure lots of folks who sew have been in on the organization of the their cabinets, so probably some very good ideas. Good luck!

Oh yes, is it better to have the sewing machine sitting in or on top of the table? normal carpenter so cannot expect koala type of 'moving up' mechanism to bring sewing machine up from inside cabinet. But i think it can be done where the machine will sit inside n the arm area etc on line with the table. i am not sure if it will be more comfortable. Pls advise too. Thanks!
