Take A Lesson From The Eagles

by Helen Dowd

Psalm 37:7 – "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him."

EAGLE FACTS:

The bald eagle will select the tallest tree in the area for his perch. He spends nearly ninety percent of his time on that perch, which serves many purposes: for resting; for hunting (as a lockout); for sending messages to other eagles about dangers; for protection from the sun, wind, and rain.

"Wait on the Lord," Isaiah says,
"And He will strengthen thee."
If you are faint, and full of fear,
To His protection flee.
Lift up your eyes, and look on high,
The way He'll help you see.
You'll mount with eagle wings again.
You'll soar, renewed and free.

There may be some people who wouldn't mind spending ninety percent of their time just resting. But the eagle isn't idle during that time. He is watching, watching for the right opportunity to do what he was intended to do: live. During this watchful time the eagle is constantly on the alert for danger. And he makes use of the information he gathers, and spreads it around to his fellows. He also uses this resting time to renew his strength for the duties that lie ahead.

God put us on this earth for a purpose, to live, and to interact with our fellow man. I've heard people complaining because they do not have a "meaningful job." I've often felt that way myself. I just wish certain obstacles would get out of the way so that I can get back to doing things which I may interpret as being meaningful, forgetting that whatever I do in the name of the Lord has a purpose.

To the eagle, sitting on the perch is meaningful. Okay, if God wants me to be sitting on a perch, no matter for how long, then I must learn to "rest" while I am sitting there. I must use the time to gather information to pass on to my fellow man, while I am sitting there. I must "wait on the Lord and renew my strength", while I'm sitting there. When the right time comes along, then "I will mount with wings". I will "soar, renewed and free". I must learn from the eagle.

Isaiah 40:31 "And they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles."
