the serger class is to make this really neat oblong bolster pillow. well I came to class with my precut fabric, my bag of batting and my trusty serger ready to roll. Well the first thing we did was make a ruffle without a ruffler, pretty neat and easy to do, then added the ruffle to the main piece, ok so far, then we did a 'pin tuck' 3 times down the center for design, still hangin in there, then sewed the other side of the ruffle to a piece of fabric folded in half for the ends - still not doing to bad, then go to look at the damn thing and one ruffle was 5 inches short of the center piece the other was 2 inches to long, so the teach says don't worry we'll cut em all off even and nobody will be the wise - cool, then we have to add this stupid little piece of cord inside a stupid strip of fabric to make a stupid piece of binding. Did it!! and not an easy task, anyway went to sew it to the ends and one side was perfect and the other side was done on the wrong side of the stupid fabric!!!!! I got such a case of the giggles I had tears running down my poor old face, today it's wadded up in a ball for the cats to play with!! But I think I learned something, not sure what yet but it'll come to me!! anyway thought you might get a giggle, I know i sure did.

Ahhhh bikermomfl, join the club, we've all done this kind of thing - in fact, some of us have done so much of it, and done it so well, that we could fill a book on these *funnies*, haha! Isn't it good to be able to laugh about it and laugh at ourselves though?

My motto is that the person who never makes a mistake - never tried anything! So keep trying new things sweetie, and keep laughing about your mistakes.

Hugs and flowers for a lovely lady - and that's something I never make a mistake about!

Did the fancy stuff in serger class too. I love my serger, but I do have to say I use it for the practical stuff and save the pintucks and such for my "regular" machine. I think I'm afraid it will bite me. A* for your efforts.

LOL...enjoyed your tale of woe....but cheer up at least you made the effort to learn how to use your serger. BTW....that's more than I've done as I've yet to plug in the serger I got back last summer. Keep saying I'm going to get around to it but haven't yet....too busy embroidering and quilting. Think maybe it scares me as I know nothing about sergers.

THAT is why a group of us try to get together once a month & do something on the serger! Last week we did a really neat pillow crazy patch top. The directions are on the Viking site under "education" then try to get to the serger projects!! It really wasn't hard to do. I will try to get a picture of it on projects. Of course my "center" piece isn't in the center (!) but it DID say CRAZY patch, didn't it?? Just think, your cats have a new toy!

Karen, I must admit that I don't use my Serger to its full potential. I mostly overcast or finish seams and use the rolled hem stitch. The new ones are so much easier to thread and change stitches. Just get the basics and you will be fine. I relate to those classes. Ladies all over the room with different brands and models. I also think the classes make some people realize that they bought the wrong model. Sometimes they paid for the whiz-banger and they really didn't need it. Good luck!!!

Oh Honey join the club we all been through this kind of stuff One time I had a lady bring me a piece of fabric wanted a scrub top made .she said there was no more fabric so I had to cut it right the first time wish she had not told me that .I cut the back upside down .I cried and just put it down evey night I made that thing in my sleep one night I dreamed I turned it right side up and cut a peice of fabric and sewed it to the bottom and cut a new top in the right place I then put a band across the seam and it turned out beautiful and she loved it.
so most times you can fix it if you just let your self calm down and think about it. It sounds like you learned a lot I still have not mastered my surger. I still have a lot to learn. Hang in there and enjoy your sewing.

I loved your "blow by blow" description!!!! You have a wonderful sense of humor and when it comes to completing any sewing (or embroidery) project - it sure is nice to have a good sense of humor! Don't give up - start again (but, this time finished it the way you think it should be finished!)..... good luck!!!!!

From past experience...IT will take YEARS to overcome this "creative" design!

Keep trying. It reminds me of the first project my sister sewed in middle school It was a pair of pants and one leg ended up skinnier than the other. She was not pleased. Remember it's tempting not to baste with a serger but undoing is pretty difficult. So double and triple check before serging! It will be worth it once you get the hang of it and it sound like you learned how to do a lot of things on your serger in one class!

The dressmaking teacher in me says: You must make one again, this time it will come out fine. There is this saying I believe in, "practise makes perfect", especially in sewing. Don't give up whatever you do. It must be fun !!!! As long as you can laugh about it, things are fine. good luck and happy sewing.
