Teri, I've done a bunch on my toilet paper covers which the best results are from the stabilizers which you wet with a sponge brush lay felt on and let dry, but these will never be worn or washed so doesn't apply to your applique. I am still experimenting with my book marks which require a back piece also. I have done some applique with felt that required hooping project and stabilizer and stitching dl line, lay felt down, stitch and trim applique then stitch satin final stitch.
I(f it's real thin felt I use tearaway n hoop & pin the felt n place & if its real heavy felt I just hoop the felt with good results. *
I have always hooped my stabilizer, either a light weight tearaway or a cutaway (whichever one I have handy!) and then lay my felt on top the hoop and embroider...as I don't want my felt to stretch any by hooping it. This has always worked for me.
You can just hoop the felt - if it isn't really thin. How did the AG 2 day event go?
I put top stabilizer on top of felt. I also just hooped the wash away sticky and sticked the felt on the wash away sticky. I like the first way because the top stabilizer is lot cheaper than wash away sticky. In additon. hooping felt did not leave hoop burn.
I have done it bot ways with good results on each. I guess the choice is yours and depends on what you are using the project for.
Thank you... I'll try without and see what happens. It's an applique from Anita Goodesign, so I doubt I'll have too much trouble.
