Many a child has grown up with his books. He truly had a great imagination to come up with the stories that he did.

My daughter loved his books but my granddaughters don't seem to like him. They are presently reading " Little house on the Prairie" series. I loved these ,my daughter loved them also!

My 5 yr old GD recites the entire Green Eggs and Ham story by heart. It was her favorite bedtime story when younger cause it's a long one! Her Daddy used to try to stop in the middle and she'd never let him. Stayed awake through the whole story. "Dr Seuss" was a major literary Icon!!! Thanks for the heads-up.

Goggle has a nice design for it today! Check out goggle. My favorite was "Oh the Places You Go". When teaching in high school we would celebrate the birthday by reading with the students in some manner. So I would read this book as a special message to the seniors.

When we came to live in England my eldest was 5 years old, did not speak a word of English. We moved 15th Of August and she went to elementary school on the 1st of September. Started reading there, Janet and John, and the first book I bought was The Cat in the Hat. Boy, did I enjoy those books - and luckily so did she and the younger children as well. Seems ages ago now.

Hi there Jerilyn,

Thankyou for the reminder of "Dr Seuss's" 50th birthday. I used to love reading them to my little ones. I loved the Cat in the Hat, but I loved this one too:-
Green Eggs and Ham
I would not, could not, in a box.
I could not, would not, with a fox.
I will not eat them with a mouse.
I will not eat them in a house.
I will not eat them here or there.
I will not eat them anywhere.
I do not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Isn't that great rhyming - no wonder kids loved him world wide? So simple and easy for them to understand. Only I don't think I'd like to try Green eggs (yuck!).

Although I bet the Irish do something similar on St. Patrick's day, I bet they have everything green!!!!!

He is just a genius and I'm a big fan of him! I used to help a library in MN elementary school, and children loved to read his books, I loved to read them to the children as well. Have you met him in person? Happy Birthday, Dr Seuss!
