I'm with mops on this one. I always stitch around the edge after the iron on. I've had too many laundry failures without the stitching.
Lynn I do a lot of applique work both machine & hand & i have found the Heat & bond to be the best. Spotlight sell it. You have a lightweight or a heavy to choose from . Goodluck Oh and dont forget to post in projects when finished :)
Heat'n Bond Fusible Web, it is very good and so far I have not had any problems with it comming off.
I use two layers of Vlisofix, it works well for me. Though, I have to try Eggannie technique, that sounds wonderful! Hugs&*,Yoriko
this is where i get something thrown at me but. i use a piece of plastic bag. the sandwich type double thickness, cut to just less than the patch to be stuck down,,, what happens to plastic when it meets heat? it melts and sticks to stuff just make sure the fabic will take the heat. place a teflon baking sheet over the fabric first and then use a hot iron and press down, do not keeep moveing the iron,
eggyannie in the Uk
I'd never throw anything at you eggyannie.. you have some brilliant ideas. You sound just like the sort of person I'd get on really well with :)
Heat and bond is good,or Vlisofix, BUT you MUST stitch it to the backing fabric (applique) once you have ironed it on. Otherwise it will come off.You can do this by hand, using blanket stitch or by machine using the decorative stitches or satin stitches on your sewing machine.
I have, but I then zigzagged the edges as I don't trust it to hold for ever.
