I got the eBay scam. Whatever they want me to work with them, I handed them my puter, laptop and whatever associated with it. I can't say much more.

Can someone explain how monitoring the victim's computer helps the FBI? Any emails dealing with this situation can be obtained and tracked at her ISP.(with or without her permission). Is that what she is talking about? Is she saying they are monitoring her ISP account or her actual PC in her home? I am curious. I am very glad you did not get scammed!!! Glad someone is willing to investigate.

they probably tired of so much going on....or I was just the lucky one....

auntie by auntie 19 Mar 2009

You are very lucky to have someone help and smart enough to have been alert and caught it before you lost money. I was just wondering if they are hooked up to your actual PC or are they just monitoring through your ISP? Not really any of my business, I am just curious!!!

Me too, the guy, (johnnygravity100@gmail.com) , sent me a banker's cashier check for $3500, and insisted I cash it and send him the balance of the cost of the sofa he was "buying" from me off of craig's list. I still have it and the address to where I was supposed to send the money via Western Union. I called the bank the check was drawn off of and they are perfectly aware of this guy's activity and are not interested in pursuing it, even though they said the check is counterfeit. I have my sofa and told him to stop emailing me. So I am happy for you that you were able to get someone who is interested in bringing these people to justice. 10*4U

Ok, one more thing, I've bought a lot of things from craigslist with no problems. However, I never go to pick up purchased items alone. I only go in the daytime and I always have someone with me and if the place looks iffy, we don't even stop.

mariahail by mariahail 19 Mar 2009

Even if you go with someone is not safe. Meet at a neutral place, years ago I have some friends, older people, selling a bed, somebody went to the house, stole ALL of their furniture and killed the couple. The advertised the bed on a local Newspaper.

I know what you mean by scam...I applied for a help wanted housekeeper part time position...the guy wrote back saying my qualifications got me the job....he's out of town and his financier will be sending me the first months check to show he was honest...It would also include the painters pay in it and it would be up to me to deduct out my pay and then pay him with a money order or certified bank check....he wanted my name address e-mail
phone number and my age ???? what's up with that....He had my name and e-mail from the reply I sent in. A couple days later he e-mailed me back requesting the same information. I told him I would not give out info via internet and wanted to know the location of his home, the painters name or a the financiers name....haven't heard back from him yet...just in case I put a fraud alert with ther credit bureaus....you can try that also.

It is probably the same person, the check for $3200.00 came from Georgia, the check itself was from a BAnk for a next town, and the adress of the person wanting my little Disney machine was from N.Carolina...

I've bought and sold things on Craigslist and never had a problem. Can you explain, in a nutshell, what happened to you? I always deal in cash and don't have anyone come to my house. I sold my old car and other used baby items. It's really sad when a few bad apples (scammers) ruin things for the rest of us!! Glad you're being proactive!

Thanks Maria! In today's time we have to keep our eyes OPEN PERIOD ;0 People want something for nothing and are willing to sell their children, mother, family, etc. We had some people in another town doing just that. Another thing they will do is sell you something that is only a shell and the inside is either full with rocks or junk, I had that to happen to me in my twenties...BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE ;D *2U

I have purchased from Craigs list. I pruchased a featherweight sewing machine. However, I zined my search in to a 20 mile rasius from my home. I went in person to pick up the product and test sew it first. I have purchased several things but always go directly to pick the items up.

I have a motorcycle up there and the only call we have got is some idiot asking questions. He obiously never owned a motorcycle. DUMB DUMB. I doubt we would ever sell it to him.
I think I'll take my listing down.
Thank you for the heads up

We welcome the FBI. We can even think of special designs for them. I have a friend here in Ga. that was with GBI. Also used to work out with a "good" looking guy from New Concord, Ohio that was with the FBI. I think he lived near the Astronaut, John Glenn.

mariahail by mariahail 19 Mar 2009

Well, they are supoused to be some of the smartest people in the Country, so I think they will soon be buying embroidery machines.

This is a good one, Asterix! But, seriously, I think they would :)

Sorry you got caught up in a mess. I am still very leary of the internet and buying over the computer lines. I guess I'm still learning and have fears. It's just a shame that people feel the need to make victims of others..I doubt that they would want it done to them or their family members, so why someone else?

It is something almost like EBAY...*****

mariahail by mariahail 19 Mar 2009

You can check it out by going to craiglist.com, just don't buy or sell anything there, please.

cracker by cracker 19 Mar 2009

It is like auto trader or smart shopper.
No bidding, just info on items for sale.

Sorry for your problem, Maria! The internet is like a big city, you never know when you're going to a "bad" part of town. Be careful out there, folks!! That's one reason I don't download freebies, or anything else unless it's from a company like Microsoft or Java. Please, please, know where you are on the internet before you get yourself messed up. Craigslist was started in good faith, but you never know who is on there, they don't monitor the posters. Please take care! Love you all, Marji
