Hi everyone, a lot of people have asked what program I use for my designs at Letzrock and assume I use photo stitch. What is Photo stitch and who makes it?

I'm not fond of photo stitch or the "look" either. I have sfumato for Embird but never have used it... was a waste of money my husband spent if you ask me because he wanted to buy me the "package" deal... he's a wonderful man! :-)

There are several programs that reproduce the look of a photograph, in color or in black & white, one of them is a program called PhotoStitch, one is Sfumato, that is Embird's (I think). These programs use kind of wiggly lines, and a build up of colors one on top of the other in order to keep the 'photograph' quality of the picture. They also use the concept of 'negative space', that is where there is very little or no embroidery, so you need to be careful what color material you're putting them on. Janome's Digitizer Pro also has a way of digitizing a photograph called Photo Click, but it comes out more like a dot-matrix printer, if y'all are old enough to remember those. It comes out in only one color, also, just uses various stitch intensity to make the picture. I agree with Ricky, not very fond of it. As with any digitizing program, you might be able to 'auto-digitize' with PhotoStitch or Sfumato, but you'd have to do a lot of tweaking for it to look good. Well done designs of this type are really pretty, but very stitch-intensive. Hugs, Marji

Lynn, if you dont use photo stitch I believe you. I met a lady many years ago in RSA who is very talented. She dumped her digitizing programs and stitched out colour photographs by hand, in just the same manner a street artist would draw you from a 1-1 visiual or a photo. One photo stitching would take her round about a hour to complete, the worst of it all was she only asked +/- R150 for her work, a give away. When I look at these new photo stitch programs I allways think of her, she was many years ahead of everyone els, she was already doing it while the rest was playing with cartoon designs.
Seeing that lady in action all those years ago, I can easely belief that there will be other girls with similar talent.
Happy stitching!

Lyyn, I believe everyone is interested in what program you run your photo stitch from - we can tell it is photo stitch - what software do you use. I use Palette v6 - it does great photo stitch - but has lots of jump stitches - yours doesn't look like it does - what software do you use to achieve such great work on your web site?

I have never referred to my program as photo stitch, thats why I asked this question. I use a combo of two programs, one being Embird....There is a bit of manipulating involved to get the results I want

OH - I see - I thought you were saying you used it - your work is nice and I was just wondering if there were alot of jump stitches to it?

Are you talking about Singer Futura PhotoStitch Software? I use Embird and have also used PE-Design and they both have the photo stitch capability. Most profesional digitizing softwares have the capability of doing this technique.

Any good, complete digitizing software will have photo stitch in it.I use Janome Digitizer Pro. It also has the photostitch option, but I don't use it as I am not partial to it. A lot of stitches and it tends to look "messy".I manually digitize all my designs.I don't automatically digitize or point and click.I have more control over the placement of stitches and eliminate all unnecessary jump stitches.I am curious- by the look of a lot of your designs, you automatically digitize or point and click? If you would like any tips or help, you can e-mail me from my website.

Dear Lynn,

One of the major companies that I see that use it is Advanced Embroideries - they have stacks of it. It is a very "stringy" looking effect. I don't know any other word to describe this style of embroidery. It's very furry!!! Love and blessings Chris (have a look at their dog designs)
