this will an In the hoop project. with as little utility sewing as possilbe I have now finished the whole 150 crayon rolls for the children and now want to do a smaller amount (50) of these chalk boards useing black PVC table top covering for them to chalk on. but just need this short length of stitches to put to hold the ribbon that will close it.

Again i seem to have asked for something not seen anywhere else ( button and button holes all in one was the last ) and perhaps others can use it specialy if there were several different lengths .Thank you in anticipation. I will up load photos of completed project for you to see .eggyannie in the Uk

I don't quite get it. I think you need it to sew down a piece of ribbon, then you attach the backing. Doesn't that fix the ribbon as well? So can't you apply a little bit of glue to hold the ribbon in place, make sure it extends beyond the placement line and then have it stitched in the seam? A digitized stitching line would be a separate pattern, not something in between your various stitching lines.

yes i could do that but yes i do realise it would be a seperate piece of pattern. the ribbon will be laid downwards over the pvc it is just so i can get it in the same place each time but ok i didn't realise it would be so difficult to do sorry. annie

It would not be that difficult, easy really, but it needs to be added to the design otherwise when you upload just a row of stitching design, your machine would centre it automatically and that would defeat the whole purpose.
It needs to be digitised into the design you are using to make sure the placement is correct.

My offer still stands but you need to send me the design and explicit intstructions for placement, size, rows, etc. hnr m

I don't understand, why not just stitch it with your ordinary sewing machine?

To digitise a row of stitching or even smaller to add to a design, it needs to be ADDED to the design to make it functional.
If you wish to send me the design

melide_menschen@yahoo.com.au

with precise measurements of where the stitching is to be, how long and how many rows (back and forth??)
I'm assuming you want it in applique (different colours)??

ok let me try and explain
I have used SWP to help me create a rolled up chalk board.
the first baste stitch is the placemnt line for the backing fabric. then i have taken an applique oblong with rounded corners and enlarged it. black pvc is placed down and then appliqued in place as normal.
I now need a small length of stitching to do in the hoop to have a placment line a stop and then return to sew down a length of ribbon.
another piece of fabric is then placed face down on top and another baste stitch will sew this in place. this can now be removed from the hoop and a few small stitches along the bottom sniped to allow me to turn the whole inside out once it has been trimmed to 1/4 inch seams. i will then use the utility machine to stitch all around the edges. this can be done whilst the machine is sewing the next chalk board
once i have got it right i will upload or zip and ask someone who knows how to do it for the cuties to use.these are to go with the pencil rolls allready created for the charity in Honduras.

they will be made from the same bright parachute nylon so they are nice and bright.
the children will be able to take them home and theny wil be light enough to carry and not get broken if sat on or thrown in frustration as all young children do.
Hope you understand the what how and why fore a little better now

I thought the same as you Lillian. I assume she just wants the length so she can finish off the project. Love Chris
