I have a tiny room that holds all the "stuff" but I take the machine to the kitchen table so I can be part of the household.
I don't have a sewing room, so I take over the dining table. As my house has an open plan living area I can watch tv or should I say listen to the tv, see what the kids are doing and also check to see that the dinner isn't burning on the stove all the while doing sewing and embroidery. It's a mess for some time until I have finished on what I am working on. But with embroidery and sewing you never really finish your projects because it carries onto doing other projects.
hehehe i understand Ingrid,i lived in a boat while sailing around the world,we cooked ate and slept in the same area ,Somtimes when we reached land i evan got to sew, mostly sails
I used to take over the dining table. The machine and sewing stuff not in production lived in a room I shared with my husband who used his half to repair cello's, violins and the odd double bass. I think the mess I made drove him crazy. NOW I have my own room where I can shut the door, sew, listen to the radio and make a mess. The dining table is quite tidy now
Gosh violins, what a cleaver DH you have,i can relate to be able to shut the door, hehe flower for you.
Thank you cuties for sharing your sewing rooms,it is fun to share.
My DH converted the garage/granny room to my sewing room. I have need of nothing there, except Computer, which will be moved this winter. Visitors welcome :)
Great idea ,this is what i have done, the best thing is i can close the door to keep the patter of little feet out when they visit. I guess i am a people person,i oftern feel to locked away from the house hold rattle and bang hehe, big hugs Heather
I used to have my 2 machines in my dining room. That's where I did all my sewing. But since my boys all grew up and moved out, I turned one of their bedrooms into my sewing room/Office. But..I now have 4 machines in that room and a huge rolltop desk with my PC in it. I had to put my quilting machine and frame in the dining room. It's ok though cause there's only 2 of us eating here on a regular basis now and we usually eat at the bar. I dream of a sewing studio where I can get all of my stuff in one well organized room.
The lady that runs the quilting class that i attend has done the same thing her DH is ok with that he has moved his office in to be neer her.
i am in my living room lillian (lbrow) can vouch for that lol i have all my sewing stuff in here and computer so like her i can sew and talk at the same time lol
Way to go,i am thinking about making a doorway from the living room to my sewing room. Sewing room also has all DH gym ,camping gear,it was a double carport converted now tiled floors and slideing glass doors overlooking my garden and parkland.
I stay right n my sewing rm where I have my computer right by machine that way I can talk to the QTs & embroidery at same time. *
Everyone has such wonderful places. I have one corner of my youngest sons bedroom, who is away at college most of the time. Computer is on 1 wall, bed on 1 wall, sewing machine sits on an old computer desk on another wall. A little cramped but it works.
When i was living on our sailing boat i had to unpack and repack my sewing every time it was used,it worked for me better than scrubbing decks, hehehe
If i was still at sea i would be sending you sunny days, today i will give you a flower and big hugs
I have a sewing room. It's small but it works for the time being. I have a u-shaped desk with matching bookcase and file cabinet. I also have a three drawer telephone table that holds some emb thread. I love my room it's full of PEACE & LOVE it's my SERENITY ROOM! Enjoy being CREATIVE ;D *2U
Hi Heather, I have a sewing/embroidery room, which is in the middle of the house over looking the back garden and pool, just outside my window is a deck, with a roof, so when my husband is home and sits outside we can still talk. On the one side of my room is the T.V. Room and the other side is the bathroom/ toilet and then the lounge and dinningroom and a openplan kitchen, All the Bedrooms face the front of the house and the Main Lounge. So a love my room, a have a L-shape desk-top under the window and along the one wall(with bottom cupboards and shelves on the wall) and my computer and long cupboards on the other side. And another long cupboard on the other wall. Will have to take a photo and then you can see my set up.Hugs Yvonne
I would love to have your sewing room it sounds perfect. The L-shaprd desk sounds like what i need to have. Last week i bought a normal sewing machine so i can embroider and sew my patchwork quilts at the same time. My embroidery machine does both, but of cause you can not do both at the same time.
Hello Toet, you know I wrote a whole description of my workplace this morning, and now it is gone. I think I forgot to submit it. (talk about around the bend !!!!)
Anyway, I work in my sewing, embroidery, class room. My husband made some lovely big cupboards in here, where I can pack all my sewing and embroidery stuff, when I teach, and my machines stay out on the decks I have along the walls. I am very well settled here, and sometimes surprize myself at how neat I tend to keep it. I work from the cupboards, so never have things out of place. I also have my computer, and radio in here, and my maltese poodle Suzie, has her own cosy little corner. She sleeps right through the classes, and gets spoiled rotten by everybody. She is getting old (14years), and the "queeny" of the sewing room. My room also runs from my kitchen/family room, and everybody always comes from there to sit and have their coffee/tea with me. I have a office chair with wheels, with which I roll from machine to machine, or student to student (Tile floor, as it can get very hot here, and never snows) For winter I have a lovely heater on the wall, and we cosy it up a little with little mats at the feet. I will so miss this room if we ever had to move, and the house is defnitely getting too big for the two of us. Hope I explained so all can understand, I do so rant on sometimes. This is such a nice question, and I am sending it to the top. God bless. Marietta
OH it sounds beautiful,it must be a pleasure to work or should i say play in your sewing room, sounds very well planned and a lovely view as well. * for you.
Marietta, it sounds a very cozy place. You described it so well, that I could 'picture' everything. Blessings,Yoriko
I do most of my embroidery work in the computer/sewing room which is right off the kitchen. Sometimes I carry everything to the dining room table for more room. The good thing about the sewing room is I can close the door to keep my pets out, my kitties like to jump in my lap and as you can guess, it can be difficult to embroider with a ball of fur on you lap.
I wish i could have the computer in my sewing room,i wonder how DH would mind if i move the office into my sewing room.hehe.
I do mine in our back room - it has a huge billiard table and I can look outside into the reserve. Claire visited here and knows what the house looks like.
As there is only Trevor, me and Bella our Sheltie I don't have to worry about not being near family. Trevor tells me this is my "Hob-session" instead of obsession. I just love computers! and sewing!
I have my radio on all day on a station called 2NURFM - it is the local University radio station - music mostly for the over 50's. But good music, songs that you can sing along with etc. etc. I never watch Television through the day, actually don't watch much of it anyway.
All my sewing needs, eg fabrics, stabilisers etc. are placed in a cupboard at the end of my room. My sewing table is under one of the back windows which looks out onto our back deck and beyond into the reserve. We have lots of native birds here everyday and so it is a beautiful place to be set up.
I just have to walk about 10 steps to the kitchen to have my cuppa.
Thanks for the question - we are all well. All excited about just learning we are going to be grandparents again in October!
Love and blessings to you Heather, love Chris
My Dear Criss, what a wonderful place for your embroidery-sewing room,no wonder your work is beautiful. The little patter of tiny feet is exciting, children bring so much love into our lives. We dont need to ask what you will be embroidering in the next couple of months,im sure you will be making lovely baby clothes and quilts. Big hugs Heather
Hi Heather, I do my embroidery in my sewing room which is in the middle of the house. I have a TV, radio and my laptop in there. When I make cards I like to bring all my stuff to the kitchen table as I love to be near the radio, kettle and phone. Although all my stuff is in one place out in the billiard room, I feel lost out there and tend to drag everything to the kitchen table...
Gosh Michele,i would love to see your cards,my sister in Bundaburg hand embroiders cards, they take a long time. Yes we need to be close to the kettle. I must say though i have gone from a size 10 to a 12 maybe too many easter eggs after christmass pudding.
Heather you are most welcome to see my cards anytime. I have some friends who hand embroiyder their cards and yes they take time...I am not a chocolate eater and prefer potato chips(love salt)..lol
I would like to see those cards too, I do Quilling, which I make cards from when I feel like doing something else, and then I also have my kettle, some coffee, etc, etc. I even have a kettle with coffee, tea, etc. when we have a dressmaking class on, as it lasts 3hours, and it's much nicer having that kettle at hand. Lol Enjoy!!!
Hi there, you are most welcome also to see my cards. Mind you, they are not all embroiydered...Most of them are made using layers of paper(3d). I have never done quilling but have seen it done and looks very time consuming. Yep, we need that kettle for sure.....I don`t drink coffee but love white tea, no sugar....I would love to see your cards as well....
Hi Michelei, I will post some when I get rolling flowers again, I usually do more of that in winter (we are starting to feel it now), as it gets too hot and sweaty in summer. Quilling is actually very easy, if you put your mind to it, and a dying art. I love to do it.
