CAMYLOW, HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ABOUT EMBROIDERY ON SILK. HOPE THIS HELPS.
I've never embroidered on silk, but it would also interest me how to do that properly.
I embroidered the train of my daughter's wedding dress with 41 design along the outside. I ironed on a lightweight vilene, hooped a tear away stabilizer and pinned the silk to it (in 1993 the choice there wasn't much choice). That worked well.
Since then I've embroidered smaller silk project and used more subtle stabilizers. Using a fine needle (70/10 or 75/11) you get beautiful results.
i've embroidered on silk, just hoop stabilizer and fixed silk with adhesive spray 505 ! nothing else ! use a small needle preferably *
I've embroidered on silk, but it's been pieces of an old pair of silk pants that I cut into squares and used for Christmas cards. I hooped the silk and a piece of felt, then floated a tearaway stabilizer underneath, because I wanted a puffy, quilted look. It worked really well, and I used metallic thread, too. I'm not exactly sure what you'd do for a blouse or article of clothing. It would have to be well stabilized, because silk is so thin, but yet not so thick that it would drag down the silk and ruin it's drape. I would probably use a lightweight, sheer type design, and the waffle type cutaway stabilizer. I don't know about spraying silk with 505 adhesive, whether it would mark the silk or not. It says not, but....I never tried it. I would think you'd want to tack it to the stabilizer somehow, as silk is so slippery. I hope somebody with actual experience sees this to help you, Camy!! I'll bet Jerrilyn knows, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji
