I am in the processof making some bibs. I just bought some white terry towel fabic and embroiderd on that. I also bought some white flannel that I plan onbacking it with and that's pretty much it, in a nutshell.
Mommy Note: Velcro closures are not as good at string ties because baby/toddler pulls at the bib and it will easily come off if the velcro closure is used. A bib with strings tied loosely around the neck will keep the bib in place for the whole meal ;-)
Also I can only find 3ply prefolded diapers, are there better quality than that?
I use the prefolded, embroider the design, put a colorful piece on the bottom & run the same about 6 - 8 inches wide up the back, this covers the embroidery. The added collar at bottom usually runs 4 inches wide. I do not always use flannel sometimes I get some colorful 100% cotton instead. *4u
I have found the link for the emblibrary burp cloth project that I have used..

Hi Grandma--not diapers, but I made burp clothes from JC Penney basic white distowels. They are from their "HOME COLLECTION" and are 20 X 28, the back is terry cloth, but front is smooth. You can make 3 from 1 towel, or you can double after embroidering. These dry much faster than those prefolded diapers, and do great job. Seems these are always going on sale for 50% off, so you can make for less than a dollar.

thanks for the great idea, I'll have to order some from Penneys and give it a try.
Yes, I have made several of these..I make them different ways..I have not used flannel up the back though...I fold the sides back after embroidering them and use a decorative stitch down the sides where the stitch is on the prefold...then I add the flannel at the bottom...I got a 100 yard bolt of diaper fabric from work before I left there and use it also..I think it works better and looks much better...Emblibrary has a page on the burp clothes..that is one way I do them..can't seem to find the page for it though
thank you for taking time to answer my question. I'll try one that way.
