Yes Meganne if its not one thing its another. We never win do we. Hugs Yvonne
We put in solar hot water about 20 years ago when there was a big US govt credit. It keeps the water so hot that we also use a mixing valve to mix in cold water to get a reasonable temp at the faucets. The solar tank feeds into the regular electric hot water tank so we have a backup if we need it, but even on cloudy days in the winter here in NY state, the solar tank gives us quite warm water. We use little or no electricity for the water. Helps the budget and our 'green-ness'
Just remember Meg, Life keeps throwing things at us to make us stronger! I guess its trying to tell U, U've got to get stronger or else... he he he I know how U feel, as we try to get ahead of the game, other things take it's place... NEVER GET A HEAD of it all!!! Money will always be tight!!! GL I hope U can find a replacement a little cheeper then $ 1000.00... (((hugs))) &* 4U
Sam :)
Meg, are you going for the female version of JOB in the Bible????? Good grief! I've been sitting here trying to find something positive to say, and I came up with, "at least Ray has a job." Not much comfort, but here in my city we have a 17% unemployment rate....lots of tent cities going up and folks losing their homes. I'm sending you a huge hug until I can think of something better!;)
$1000 for a water heater!!! And I thought prices up here were bad. I'm still trying to talk Jerry into a wind system and tankless water heater. The initial cost is a lot but we would be totally off the grid and no utility bills except the phone. In fact, Saskpower would end up sending us $$$ for a change. The other plus for us is that we wouldn't have to deal with power outages. I hope you can get it taken care of soon. It's no fun being without water.. I know only too well.
Wow, OZ must certainly be different from the USA, up north here, anyway. I'm understanding that your water heater is outside? Most of us have them in the basement here, or mine is in the "closet" with the electric furnace because I don't have a basement. It's just a 60 gallon tank, sits right on the floor (tank is insulated of course), and costs about $300 to replace. We kind of expect them to go bad every 10 years around here, because of all the minerals in the well water. Of course these things have built-in timers from the factory, they know when it's Christmas, New Year's Day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, all the bank holidays, government holidays, and have snowstorm sensors, so they will choose to go bad at one of the least opportune times. I've not heard them myself, but I know people who swear that the water tanks laugh when they go bad on holidays. Hee hee hee. What an incredible nuisance, Meganne!! Just when you think you're getting ahead, something else goes wrong. I do so wish I could give you a big hug!! Love, Marji
what's keep happening to you ?! hope better days will come soon. so it starts by receiving this flower I hope, hugs gerry
I keep thinking one of these day ours is going to go to cuz it is 32 years old! This is the only thing that has not been replaced since this house was built! One of these days, I will probably find water all over the place. I am keeping my fingers cross that it doesn't happen. I am married to a plumber and he waits til something happens before he replaces it!
WOW!! That's about how old Ray's house is and he's already on his second water heater. They sure don't make anything like they used to do they?
I'm beginning to believe he's right when he says he is jinxed with all electrical products.... wonder if it the house number (13) LOL!!
Who know it could be the number!LOL Everything in this house was from Sears. The person who owned it before us worked at Sears and must have got a good discount. We had slowly replaced everything after 15-20 years except for the water heater. Still going yet and it is a propane water heater.
Hi Sweetie Are we related????? Murphy's law if it can go wrong it will. Honey I'll be praying for yall. I know it stinks not to have hot water. When ours went out we had to boil water for bathes the only good thing about that is when your butt is as big as mine it only takes a little to fill the tub once I get in hehehehe Try to keep smiling. Luv ya God bless Ronny
Luckily we still have hot water, but i'm holding my breath in case the bottom falls out before we can replace it. LOL!!! Just gotta keep laughing, but I know Ray is at breaking point.
Maybe our luck will change when my SIL returns, permanently, from China. :-}}}!!!!!
Have you looked into solar powered? There are rebates available at the moment that will make these cheaper. Think they finish at the end of June.
Yep, Definitely going Solar after looking into the rebates, they're huge..... just hope the roof is strong enough to support it. Maybe I shouldn't even THINK that thought. LOL!!!!
It HAS been RAINING here tooo!! But nothing close to what you are going thru!!! They say to grin and bear IT :)..My grin is turning upside down!
And poor Ray has gone to work tonight (Sunday) and left me to my own devices at home alone. Seems every time we look like getting ahead with his working overtime, some hugs bill crops up to take it all!!!! Gotta keep laughing but poor devil has been drenched about 3 times today, with hoses flying off taps and trying to prop up water heater. I think we're jinxed or someone has put a curse on us. LOL!!!
I'm glad you can still add the LOL...although I'm sure that tears would be more likely!!
This reminds me of my friend Roslyn, she told me one day her dryer stopped working, oh my I said...only to be told it was 30 years old,,,then I guess she was due for a new one...hehehe...
Kevin 07 may give us another Stimulus Package...if that will help you out any....
just thought, what about the one you put on roof, mind is slipping at the mo...there is a rebate for that one....SOLAR...there tiz
Yes, we've just been checking them out I think that's the way we'll go.
There's also a rebate now for home insulation, I've been telling Ray for ages that he needs to insulate this place, so now might be a good time, sure would be good to wake up to just 'cold' water instead of ice on my bedside glass. LOL!!!
Dear Meg,
Hope it can be fixed asap. No fun without hot water! And you're right - you can't take it with you so why not spend up big now! Up here they have been advertising that why not spend your government rebate that is supposed to be coming everyone's way on a Solar Hot water service - only thing is they cost more than what we are getting!! Personally I like Rheem - do you remember the song "Install a Rheem, Install a Rheem, it's the hottest of hot, hot water you've ever seen".
Love and blessings Chris
Yeah Ray's is a Rheem Off-peak, I couldn't believe it's barely 10 years old. My gas one at home is 14 years.
I keep yelling at him to check his warranty but he keeps making excuses why they wouldn't fix it. MEN!!!!
if you don't already have one get an instantaneous gas unit instead of the storage type, you will find that your gas bill will decrease by about a 1/4 or more and no running out of hot water, but be sure to get one that runs at about 26 ltrs hot water/min.
we instated one about 10 years ago & the gas bill is still below what it was before we installed the unit. It's funny how they always die on the weekends or public holidays.
Worse luck there is no natural gas available in this area and portagas is way too expensive. We have portagas for cooking and heating but if I run the heater a bottle only lasts 12 days and each bottle costs $89. We're stuck with off-peak electric hot water. I wish we could afford to have Solar hot water, we'd save money in the end but the initial purchase and installation costs are beyond us right now.
hnr, M
It sure wouldn't be any fun without hot water!!!!! A flower for you!
Meg, you and Ray will continue to be in my prayers - I can't believe the load that is coming your way - at this time - you do have a good sense of humor about it. Keep being positive, please.
