Letvia, you are in my thoughts & prayers, as well as all the others who have answered that have loved ones close or live close to an outbreak. I certainly understand you keeping your son home from school, and all the precautions everyone is taking. With travel as easy as it is these days, it's so easy for an infection like this to spread quickly, without anyone even knowing they are sick, then bring it home to others. I surely do hope this gets under control quickly. I'm so glad I live in a very rural area, where people don't move around much. Not too likely my Wattsburg farmer neighbours are coming back from a Mexican cruise, they're out plowing the fields for corn. I am praying with all of you that we all come out of this safely! My love, Marji

There's one confirmed case in the Netherlands as well, a 3-yr old child that returned with its parents from a holiday in Mexico a couple of days ago. BTW they call it Mexican flu here, instead of swine flu. A couple of confirmed cases in well nourished countries won't make a pandemic if they are treated straight away, no use for panic yet, I think.

The whole world is in our prayers! But, please, wash your hands often and don't live in fear. At this point most of the cases have been related to trips to Mexico, or contact with someone that's been there. Of course it can spread if we are not careful. I am glad we are being warned, but I feel if we are careful, wash, and GO TO THE Doctor if you start flu like symptoms we will ride through this. It is treatable if caught in time. Please use common sense. There was 1 case they are testing for in Nashville, TN..but haven't confirmed it as of last night. Boy, will your little ones learn to wash their hands a lot after this!!!

Honey, it's all over the world. We have many cases down here in San Diego... in fact my husband has been doing his clinical rotation in one of the hospitals where flu patients have been (and he's a respiratory therapist). yikes! Until they close the borders (which they won't) to rid the virus in the States, this will keep spreading. :-(

They mentioned something today about temp closing border. I hope your husband takes great care.

letvia by letvia 30 Apr 2009

Your husband's job is a risky one. Even if they close the borders the ill is already spread. Flower and XoXo

simplyrosie by simplyrosie 30 Apr 2009

True, but we need to get a handle on what's already managed to cross over. Isolation, locking down the area and dealing with the infected is the only way to solve this matter.

I am just 100 miles southwest of you...here in Cincinnati...if it is caught in time they are able to treat it but people unknowingly don't go and get checked in time and that is why there are fatalities from it...

It's good to know that you live in Cincinnati. And it's right, we need to be more careful about our health. Flower and XoXo

We have 2 suspected cases in Pittsburgh. One is a woman that came back from vacation in Mexico and I am not sure of the other one. We all have to be cautious, wash our hands and stay away from anyone that is sick.

My dear - I will keep your family in my prayers - we all must try to now worry - until we actally have a person that we might be close to - that could have this - fear will only make things worse - in the long run - just keep your son's clean and let them know - that they need to wash their hands often and stay away from someone that is coughing or sneezing. Take a look at these maps:

We across the nation are watching this with trepidation. We all pray this sickness will end. Heard today the first confirmed death in USA of Swine Flu. Our prayers are with the family of the little girl who died and with our leaders in hopes this pandemic is contained very quickly. We all must protect ourselves with precautions of hand washing, wearing a mask when in public places of known areas of the flu and when traveling.. If you are feeling ill, stay away from others as best you can. Prayer, precautions and quick responses of flu vaccine from the dept of health are our only hope.

Mona

Sound advice .. thanks for this important reminder.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 29 Apr 2009

I heard that that little girl's family brought her across the border for treatment - but that is nether here nor there - but we all have to keep ourselves safe and away from anyone that is sick. *4U

Thank you Mona. And you are right Shirlene. They came from Mexico to Texas for treatments and sadly the baby is dead.

I live in Indiana ... about 80 miles from Columbus. I hope it ISN'T , but please let us know what you hear. I understand it was traced back to a 5yr old girl in Mexico. I hope I got this right, as I wouldn't want to say anything that wasn't right .. but that is what I UNDERSTOOD the news to say. We'll be thinking about you, and the REST OF THE WORLD.

In 1918 - when the last thing close to this happened - my grandmother's family had two children that passed because of that flu - they had never even been to school - nor do they know how the two contracted it. If you feel you have to keep your son out of school - do that - but don't scare him - just keep him safe and clean and teach him the reason for your fear - so he can keep himself clean, too. *4U

Thank you dear Shirlene. I explained to him, calmly ;-) the reason he stayed at home today
